Marner isn't getting $8 million. Probably $9.5 million or above

Why would Marner want a bridge deal after leading the Leafs in points in back to back seasons

They took a bridge contracts so they could prove more so they could cash out on their next contracts. Marner doesn't need anything else to prove

Marner went from two 60 point seasons to a 94 point season.

So are we giving the deal to a 60 point player or to the 94 point player on Tavares’ wing?

I don’t think a bridge deal is likely but to shoot it down and call it impossible is a bit narrow minded. To think a 21ur old kid could have nothing to prove seems foolish.

It was a different market back then. Bridge deals for star players don't exist anymore. McDavid, Draisaitl, Matthews, Nylander, Pastrnak, Elhers, Ekblad, etc l signed after Kucherov which was the last bridge and imagine how good tampa would look now had they signed him back then for an 8 year 8 mill a season contract.

The bridge deal only works for secondary characters like Kapanen

Leafs save cap and it seems like some solid upgrades for the ducks but I do see two issues.

1. Do the Ducks want to move their only top 4 rhd?
2. Do they want to take on 4m in cap space?

Its all about negotiations i would say. As a home-town kid, i believe Marner will take Bridge-deal before Offer-sheet. Getting big money after Marleau off the books. And lets be honest....2 x 8M is way more if we break down numbers of 8 x 11M as rumours got it.....( i believe its 8 x 11M, but even if less in term ....still AAV big bucks for a Bridge-deal )

I don't see how the Leafs could work Marner's deal without bridging him. At least until Marleau's contract expires.

But they get a really solid prospect RHD. Unlikely the Ducks are going for the cup next year.

In my books 2-3 is Bridge-deal, 4-6 Short-term and 7-8 Long-term....to each his own version i would say....

Ducks can't trade Manson. If they made the trade you suggest, here's the right side of their defense: Korbinian Holzer, Jake Dotchin, Andy Welinski, and Timothy Liljegren. That would automatically put them in the Lafreniere sweepstakes.

Ducks don't have the depth on the right side to make this move, and they value Manson very highly in Anaheim.
