Patrick Marleau has a full NMC so he can't be traded to Detroit without his approval (or waived or buried). He is not going to give his approval to go to a rebuilding team from a Stanley Cup contender at age 40.

2nd Detroit would want more than a swap of picks 2nd round for a 1st when they take on a bad contract and retain 50% of a serviceable 3rd pair d-man.

I agree, he does have a full NMC. but Detroit offers a chance to play more minutes, and be flipped to a contender at the deadline. TOR might not be any good unless they can find a way to open up some cap space to sign their studs.

TSN reported it, Bob McKenzie tweeted

"There’s apparently been no dialogue between Milstein and the Wings on Datsyuk and certainly nothing since Steve Yzerman took over as GM. In any case, Milstein and Datsyuk will get together and figure out Pav’s next step. It’s probably Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg"

Just Because Yzerman hasn't talked to him in the first 2 weeks as GM does not mean there is zero interest. He's got a lot going on, and this wouldn't be of utmost importance until at least July 1st when Datsyuk becomes a free agent. That said, I don't expect him to come to Detroit, but it is still and option.

Friedman also says the same thing on his podcast that dropped Thursday: same message it’s unlikely
He returns to the wings and him plying in his home town khl seems like it’s the next move.

Datsyuk's rights are owned by the Arizona Coyotes until July 1st. The Wings can't talk to him or his agent about a contract or interest in playing again--unless they get permission from the Coyotes--because of league tampering rules. That said I believe this is his agent trying to gain leverage in contract negotiations with the KHL hometown team (Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg).

Marleau isn't coming here for half a season to be traded again. No one puts their family through that if they can control it. He would simply request a trade from Toronto in Jan and get the same results. He's been there 2 years so they probably have established some roots. Better to take it easy on the first half of the season anyways at that age than get more minutes on a junk team.

Friedman said Datsyuk and holland had brief discussions of a return before stepping Down as gm, so that throws your have to wait till July 1st theory.

When McKenzie and Friedman are saying it’s unlikeky, how can you you speculate anything different at this point
