Kapanen is a 30 goal scorer next to McDavid, so he's that valuable to EDM.

Regardless of him being a 30 goal scorer next to McDavid, Edmonton won't give up that much to get him when they could just offer sheet him.

Even if Brown scored 20 and they made the playoffs it would still be a cond. 2nd not a cond. 1st. No one would ever give up a 1st for Brown especially Holland

You assume that teams offersheet.

The "why would they x if they can offersheet" argument is not a legitimate argument.

"Why would you pay for groceries when you could just steal your food?"
"Why would you swap furniture with a friend when you could just rob their house?"

None of those are comparable. One of the leafs players will probably get an offer sheet if they don't move out money. Offer sheeting is not stealing as you are inferring, every team is legitimately able to do it.

It is a legal way of stealing players.
You say an offersheet will probably happen, with no basis for that claim. Offersheets don't happen because they are basically stealing RFA's for pennies on the dollar, and people tend to get pissed off when you rob them, leading to far reaching consequences down the road. Remember these GM's have to WORK together to do their job.

There is a damn good reason why they never happen.

The basis for saying it is that the leafs simply don't have the space, even if an offer sheet didn't happen a deal involving Kapanen would be structured around what a offer sheet would provide as a return.

For all intensive purposes, offersheets don't exist.
A Kapanen deal that got done would be structured around Kapanen's actual value.
If no one wants to pony up, thats fine. We'll just keep him. If we have to move out salary there are a bunch of names on the list before Kapanen.
