But the pile of crap is from the leafs. their crap is mad of gold and worth more then any other teams. You must be new to leaf threads. For how crazy/dumb this guy is and how unreasonable all trades and signings are it is still one of better ones. How sad is that.

Sam steel is the first round pick Toronto traded to get Freddy. This team also probably loses in seven to Boston

I like that Edmonton trade, I am certain not many others will because Larsson is apparently a definite top pairing RHD (he is not, he's a 2nd pair defensive defenceman, which is also what Zaitsev is).

The reason why it makes sense to me, is that Edmonton takes a slight downgrade on defence and gets a quality winger that has scored 20 goals in the NHL, something they are absolutely desperate for.

Zaitsev is a third pairing defenseman. If he was second pairing he wouldn’t even be a problem.
Connor Brown combats the negative value, but not enough

Zaitsev has been a 20+ minute defenceman on a top 10 team in the league in the past 2 years. Larsson has been a 20+ minute defender on a huge disappointment. They aren't equal but they are way closer than people on here want to admit. Zaitsev was used incorrectly for a long time (Babs is an overrated coach) and showed where he is best suited while playing with Muzzin. He was very good in the playoffs and I am happy with him as the 2nd Pair righty.

I have no desire to move him, it would create as many problems as it solves. Move him out, you may get a 4th tops and likely a 5th or 6th defenceman in return but now you need another top 4 defenceman which will cost a lot to acquire. I'd rather just keep Zaitsev.

You’re right, wait, Toronto makes the review calls, Patrick Marleau used to be on San Jose, San Jose has gotten a stupidly lucky call every series, coincidence??? I’ll leave that up to you

So the review in Toronto had nothing to do with call. Hand pass has to be called by referees not reviewable call.

Because zaitsev plays on better team and plays in top 4. Doesn’t mean he is better then larsson or he is top 4 dman. Leafs have the worst group of dman in the league. He is 5-6 dman and should be 15-17 mins a night. His contract makes him close to untradable and will have to give up something to get rid of him.

The worst group of Dmen in the league. How do you have a good team (7th overall in the entire league) and have the worst defence in the league?

As for his contract making him untradeable, fine whatever man. I'm fine with keeping him. He's going to be much better this next season now that he doesn't have to bail out Gardiner every 3rd shift. Him and Muzzin were really good in the playoffs and I think a full season together will see Zaitsev become the player he is supposed to be.

Because their offense and goalie bailed them out. Their position in standing has no value in defensive rank. Look at their dman compared to other teams. They were not good. Easily bottom ten and more like bottom 5. Worst might be an exaggeration but they are really bad and that is why they keep getting bounced in the first round.

I'd put a lot more weight into that common sentiment if it wasn't for the fact that the past two seasons they took the 4th best and 3rd best team in the League to 7 games. Last season they were lucky to get to 7 and this year, they were out coached but showed very well. That was a terrific series but the better coached team won. Its not like TO played against an underdog and lost. Look at what Boston has done since? They are the favourites to win the cup. Who knows what we would be talking about had they won that round.

As for their defence.

They are losing 2 starters from last season Hainsey and Gardiner. While Gardiner is a good player, he's flawed and what makes him good isn't at all a need for TO anymore. What makes him bad won't at all be something that we miss. And Hainsey should never have been a top pair guy. Losing them and replacing them with younger inexperienced players could see TO be much better than last year. I also think that new coaches behind Babcock could mean a small shift from the stretch pass to shorter more controlling movement of the puck.

The reason Boston is better not just because of better coach. They have better gm and their team is more well rounded. Backup goalie, defense is very good and team made moves to get better at deadline.

If you think inexperienced young dman are going to step up and play top 4 minutes and be better then two players u said. You are in for disappointment. Young dman make a lot of mistakes and take time to develop.

Your team will be worse next year. You will be forced to lose key players and replace them with rookies of vets on last legs. It will take 4 years before u have chance to win anything and that is if cap keeps going up and big contracts become bargains.
