5 million for Reimer? You can't be serious? Defense is terrible

Disagree that the Leafs have an interest in Reimer and James probably feels the same way. Leafs can wait till next summer to make a goalie move.
But Norton, this will be something like the Leafs defence will be , and it's not all bad. Reilly, Gardiner and Marincin made strides last year, Carrick by his play with the Leafs and Marlies (he has been a pro for three years) looks like he is NHL ready, and Zaitsev is 24 year old pro, an all star in the KHL, and then leaves Hunwick .
Valiev is a good prospect but will likely be with the Marlies next season.

Exactly, not that is a great lineup, but just a simple realistic one. I put Valiev in just as a player, could be anyone who plays well at camp. I also expect the Leafs to draft 2-4 goalies this year and try to develop their own guy for in 2-4 years. Signing Reimer is just a free stop gap player to give above average goaltending in his prime years

Have Lupul and Michalek fallen that far into the useless category? I didn't pay any attention to the Leafs last year.

I would surprised if Lupul is even in the lineup one game. Michalek no, he is a useful veteran winger, maybe our best 2 way winger who can teach younger players how its done. Both are so injury prone though I have them as spares but not off the cap so its realistic

Well. Lupul has fallen into the useless category, though it may not be his fault. Injuries has caught up to him. For sure he will be on the LTIR for parts of the next two years with the Leafs....Just another bad contract now, which all teams have.
Michalek. Michalek has to waive his NTC to come to Toronto in the Phanuef deal. Michalek, Cowan and Greening were cash dumps by the Senators for 1 plus years, for the Leafs cash dump of Phanuef of 4 plus years.
There is a handshake agreement with the Leafs and Michalek is that he will not be moved this season, not traded, not send to Marlies, not bought out.....as per his agreement to come to Toronto. I'm sure come January and February if Michalek wants to be traded to a contender for his last change at a Cup, he will be obliged.
Hopefully, he has good season with Leafs and the Hawks, Dallas, San jose or some good team wants him by TDL. He will be traded for a similar cap player (cap dump) or a 7th rounder.
