If we were to trade down

Description
So there has been talk of the leafs being offered Domi or Davorak and 2 2016 1st round picks. Though I do believe it is possible that Arizona offered this I do also believe Lou and Shanahan had to put it phone on mute to chuckle a little bit. Is it possible we trade matthews...yes but Strome has to be in on the trade. But saying that the leafs will want to be the winners hands down no questions asked if they do this. So they will want Strome, Domi, and the 2 1sts this year for Kapanen and 1st overall. This gives us a true 1C in Strome, and top 6 winger in Domi (who will be a fan favorite before day one of training camp) and a top 10 pick a very deep draft and another quality prospect at 20. Though I am high on Kapanen I do believe we might not have a spot for him on this roster if he is not NHL ready soon and Domi gives us a skilled Winger who plays with an edge. If Arizona can't or won't pony up then they will be told thanks but no thanks.

If they were to do a deal for the 1st overall pick this would be something I could definitely live with. Agree with you on Kapanen and pretty much everything. Wondering who you'd want to draft at 7 and 20?...... I like Logan Brown or maybe putting the Nylander boys together on the same team with #7 and going for Logan stanley maybe with the 20th.

Those are good ideas but the one thing we need in another blue chip dman prospect so I could see us drafting one of the top 3 even if it means trading up to 4th

I think that is what it would take for the Coyotes to get Matthews, though I also think it would be a mistake on their part, at least on the ice. The Coyotes ultimately are in a good spot as far as what they'll be putting on the ice down the road either way. They are loaded with great forward prospects. Obviously the marketing aspect of Matthews is what makes the overpayment worth it for them.

This is true, that being said we do have Carrick who I'm hoping will surprise, Dermott who I think could be a great #3 and a powerplay specialist and you just don't know what we have in Zaitsev yet. Really love the 6foot 7 Stanley, seriously lacking that sizable shutdown D. We want to be competitive in a couple years and there's great potential in all areas there so if they need some time that's fine with me. Plus who knows what Rielly develops into in that time.

I agree but I also think they might be just offering Domi, and 2 1sts so that down the road they can say they did "try" to get Matthews. Strome will be very close to Matthews in term of skill so they will lose more than gain like you said.

All true but how the league is evolving Marincin type players might become the future shut down dman.

Agree that Strome....meaning a centre has to part of the equation. At centre Strome, Nylander, Kadri...that would be a nice part towards the rebuild. Pick # 7? Who knows but one of the top three Dmen should be available.
Not one of the three top junior Dman, screams all star at the NHL level. At 3Oth and the second round, there should be competent NHLers (in time). I kinda like the group of Dman the Leafs and Marlies are going to have next season.

Very reasonable but TML should keep the pick.

In a perfect world, Strome + 7th & 20th for Matthews and everyone should be happy. Make no mistake, that's an over payment from the Coyotes but one that may prove to be worth it in the long run when Matthews helps sell tickets as the home boy in town.

On the flip-side, Toronto gets their #1 center of the future. I don't know why people are semi-doubting this? He will be a good one. Might need an extra year to develop as Matthews looks more ready now but either way the leafs aren't winning a cup anytime soon so that development time is fine. Now throw in the fact that they could add 2 solid pieces that could be NHL ready as soon as next year in guys likes Juolevi/Chychrun/Sergachev and a guy like Jones/Fabbro/Stanley with the 20th, they're rebuild is nearly set as they would be solid in every position except for goal tending. Which as Murray and Jones showed, isn't the position you need an all-star proven goalie to win the cup anymore.

Toronto fans, I sincerely hope the Leafs don't make this trade as it would improve them greatly if they did. As a die hard Habs fan i hope they keep Matthews as i see it as the lesser of 2 evils from our perspective. neutral

Your starting to scare me Toronto, with amount of prospects your amassing. I can't believe i'm saying this but i kind of hope you start winning games as soon as next year so you can leave the some of the prospects for the rest of us.

Though I agree that both Strome and Matthews are going to be very good #1 centers the point I was making is Lou and Co will try and leverage #1 for everything it worth if they did trade it I would love to see Matthews in a leafs jersey and plan to order mine as soon as it is official but I can't see Toronto wanting to trade and Arizona will have to blow their socks off with the offer or they will settle with Matthews.
