So you traded
Nylander, Kadri and Holland
For
Spurgeon, Wennberg and Greenway

Nylander has 5 years remaining and is arguably over paid by a million a year. Personally I think his contract will look ok in a year.

I gather you think Spurgeon as a RHD is worth nylander straight up. Maybe he would be if he was signed to term at around 5 million like Pesce is but has 1 year before free agency.

Kadri for wenneberg to save 600,000 is a bad trade

No you don’t, if leafs want JP they only need to offer sheet him 3 years at 2.5 million. No way Edmonton matches and I believe JP would love to get out of Edmonton. It costs the leafs a draft pick and money that the have.

Stash him with marlies and see if you can make something of him.

As poorly as he has performed, you cant trade nothing for JP. A 2nd would have to be included atleast

I don’t think oil would take a 2nd.

I think the leafs should offer sheet him at 2.5 x 3 and give up the 2nd they would have to.

IMO the oil would not match it they would take the pick. Toronto has the budget to allow an overpay to JP and send him to marlies where he would not count against the cap.

The original offer of brown + Sparkes + 4 th is IMO an overpay by leafs.

How are the Leafs goign to have the money to offer sheet Pulujarvi? They're likely gonna be right up against it and won't have space to do much.

If I'm the Oilers I'd rather work with Pulujarvi and see if he pans out then trade him for Brown who's pretty much a dime a dozen depth winger, Sparks who's a good AHL goalie but questionable at the NHL level and a 4th round pick that is likely to never amount to anything. Even if Pulujarvi ended up a bust I wouldn't look back and think damn I should've taken that Brown/Sparks/4th offer.. Lol

Your whole JP plan is based on sending him to the AHL? because he isn't even waiver exempt anymore so good luck getting him through waivers

Really, at 2.5 million a year for 3 years you think someone else will pay that and pick him up. I’m not so sure but yes my plan is to send him to AHL.

I think the trade is a horrible one for the leafs so you don’t have to convince me.

However, Brown is 24 and 2 years ago playing on the 2nd and 3rd line 16 minutes a game he put up very similar numbers to what kapanen did last year. Brown also put up 128 pts in Erie playing wing with some guy named McDavid. He is in fact so ordinary that the leafs signed him for 2 million a year coming out of his entry contract. Last year if kapanen hadn’t suddenly figured it out and if Johnsson hadn’t done the same thing that ordinary Brown would have been on the second line and put up 50 points playing with Matthews.

Totally fair point about Brown and I agree there is a good chance if he's put on a line with high caliber players (Matthews, McDavid) he might put up solid numbers.
But for me if I was an Oilers fan I'd want to see Pulujarvi given a legitimate chance to play with better players and/or proper development time before essentially writing him off. From the Oilers games I've watched it was more then obvious he's got the tools to be a good NHL player but so often he was usually put on a line he's not gonna generate much on.
Like Lucic or Kassian-Brodziak and Puljujarvvi, seriously wtf is Pulujarvi gonna do with those guys?!
Watching what some of these coaches come up with is maddening sometimes.. Lol
Hopefully whoever the Oilers hire as a head coach has more sense then Hitchcock did not that I really care through.

Thank you for recognizing and acknowledging Browns potential value.

I agree that JP has a good chance to become a good nhl player. I don’t think oil should trade him. That’s why I would overpay him if I was Dubas so oil walk away and just take the pick. Also as was pointed out it needs to be enough and enough term that no one claims him on waivers.
