You understand your first round picks are garbage. They are like a 2nd round

EDM accepts. They would want a top 6 centerman coming back to fill in for McDavid. They also desperately need young puck moving offensive d men and Hanifin and Valimaki are Calgary’s most valuable d men in terms of trade bait. Plus you throw in Bennett’s potential and Ken Holland would take a good look at this. You could take out Bennett and Hanifin and throw in Tkachuk I guess.

Geographic/rivalry dynamics at play here. I guess you can never say never but this is about as close as you'd get to something never happening, I think. Holland trading his generational talent down the road would take major gonads.

Why on earth would Calgary start with 176 points worth of production on better contracts and Tkachuk has a ton of aspects to his game that McDavid doesn't bring? McDavid is the best player alive but spending 12.5 million and losing that production and those intangibles doesn't make sense. Trade would be one super star, blue chip prospects and picks.

Why would Edmonton want to trade away the best player on the planet without getting back a big return?

Right, hence why these trades never happen,if it were, it doesn't start with a team giving up 150% of McDavid's production and then adding.

no, but one of the two would absolutely have to be included. Obviously this is hypothetical (as are all agms). If you trade for the best player in the world who is signed for another 7 years its going to hurt, and hurt really bad.

Also when you bring in McDavid and his 115 points per year its pretty easy to add some cheap options around him to reach that 175 point marker you're looking at in adding tkachuk and Johnny hockey together.

One absolutely needs to be included. One bonafide super star, blue chip prospects that could turn into super stars, and high end picks. Using McDavid with cheap players to make up point differences isn't working for the Oilers now, why would it work for other teams?

because you guys (flames) actually have players who know how to play defense.
