The Hayes Rumor

Description
If Bowman were to sign Hayes to a long term deal...I really just think it's about having center depth and adding physicality. That Hawks don't really have too much of either to be honest. I could see him being a nice fit despite the history. Hawks fans will welcome him back. He'll actually fit VERY good next to saad ironically. They're both powerful forwards. Why not add another powerful forward in Simmonds on a 1 year bounce back deal? WPG and STL are very physical teams. Would be nice to match up with them a little more.

As far as the cap goes...they're ~$30M the following year available, but lots of people needs extensions. That should be enough IMO, but maybe a move or two needs to be made.

If they do sign Hayes...they're almost definitely going Byram in the draft. Which then leads to the question...what to do with Gus. Well, that all depends on contract extension costs too.

Not sure why you made that VGK trade if all of them are gonna be scratched. Just keep Caggiula and replace Kurashev with him.

I don't think trading Caggiula is a good idea, he was gaining traction. I also don't know if Kurashev is ready yet. Hayes is really not a physical forward. He's a more skilled version of Anisimov.

Ugh I wouldn’t welcome Hayes back. Once a weasel always a weasel.

I did it for the picks and depth. The Hawks play in a very physical division. Reaves can help when needed.

I agree, I probably should have chosen my words better. He's not going on there and starting fights, but he doesn't get moved off the puck and drives the net. As for Drake. I'm honestly not the biggest fan. I don't dislike his play, but he's a 4th liner. Check out his linemates last year...Toews AND Kane...McDavid AND Drai...McDavid AND RNH...yet 23 points?!?! You luck into 25 points when you have only 3 sure fire HOFers as line mates. Kurashev to me is a mid season call up, but he has talent and scoring ability. Drake doesn't. Kurashev to me is more of a complimentary piece to that line.

***EDIT*** Drake is still better than having Manning...so I'm still greatful that Chia existed, BUT all things considered I think he can be a nice flip. Those picks can really help in the long run.

I don't blame him to be honest. I would do the same. It's a business and while it did hurt the Hawks for sure...gotta earn your money while you can. Maybe he'll give Bowman a little bit of a discount in price to return the favor.

My choice has been Cozens from the start. I'm changing my tune a bit. Byram might really be a Keith Replacement, BUT wouldn't be upset with either player.

Forget the Vegas trade and Wayne...both wasted roster space and cap space IMO. Also, Caggs should be a vital piece on our 3rd or 4th line and he's a bargain at his low cap hit.

Kampf will get more as well as Perlini.

Kurashev likely won't play and if he does, not 1st line. Hawks #1 need right now is a #1LW

Turcotte should be before Cozens...may have to wait another year on Turcotte but he has a higher ceiling.

I'm not sure I agree with either of these...which is fine! The Hawks have a #1LW in Debrincat, but they'd likely distribute the wealth among other lines. That's the intent behind the lines created for this post anyway. No doubt that Simmonds is a bounce back player. He's VERY physical and it's a 1 year deal...so if it doesn't work out. Trade him for a 3rd round pick @ the TDL. There are worse options. Also, don't tend to agree with Turcotte having a higher ceiling. He's a Chicago kid and I think that gets people to believe he's the obvious #3. I trust Mark Kelly will continue to evaluate/draft quality players as I think he's done in the past. We'll see on draft day I guess.

Cat can't play the 1st line well...that experiment was tried many times. Smaller guys typically don't do well against opponents 1st lines.

I've been reading other teams evaluations with Turcotte (Detroit, Colorado, LA) all are saying Turcotte has much higher ceiling and has the ability to be a Toews like player. Cozens, most agree, is going to be a good 2C but not necessarily a 1C. Again, just going on expert opinions as I'm no expert on splitting hairs with prospects. Lots of analysts are realizing Turcotte was overlooked with Hughes on the team.

Simmonds sucks...slow. Grab Dzingel and let Kurashev develop. Hawks fans tend to underrate Kahun...1st year on NA ice ever and played quite well.
