Bennett is a great character guy that could still turn into a top 6 forward, but up until now, he hasn't shown enough to get anything more than a prove-it deal for 1-2 years at 2-2.5M. Kapanen and Johnsson both had 20 goals and 40 points, where Bennett has struggled to get to 15 goals and 30 points the last few years. As for Tkachuk, the Flames have worked the cap really well, starting with Giordano's contract which set an internal max for contracts. Tkachuk will definitely set the new high, but he's a competitor who wants to win, and is probably Calgary's next captain. I think it more likely that he signs for 5-6 years at a lower cap hit (7.5-8M). As for Toronto, which is I think the point you're trying to make. They have 17 players signed with just under 9M in cap space, to resign at least 3 forwards and 2 Defensemen to round out the roster, including Marner who will take up more than they already have. Calgary has a bit of maneuvering to do. Toronto is poised to lose a top 4 defenseman (Gardiner), may be forced to trade two of their top 9 forwards (kapanen and Johnsson) and could lose (in my opinion) Marner, their best player to an offer sheet, unless they make some serious player-for-pick moves.

Yup I think they gonna go the short term route with chucky 5yr 7.5m Bennet is a tricky one I think he's a 2.2ish gave or take a couple hundred thousand he's a bottom six forward with ability to take some faceoffs and special teams. But giving the rumors of Vancouver might offer sheet him at 3m making it hard for Calgary to pay him over that if this happens yeah your it would be around 4m but I don't think Calgary does a counter offer and he becomes a canuck for 3m

That is still a massive overpayment. He also had lower scoring rates per 60 than Mangiapane Quine Jankowski Hathaway to name a few. If there is a strong push to acquire him from elsewhere, it's a good time to move on.

I think this just shows that you are out of touch with how Flames RFA negotiations have gone and the Bennett argument is so far from a direct comparable with either of those players you listed. If Bennett gets more than 2.5 then Treliving isn't doing his job,

Tkachuk could make 9, I think that's where his camp will start and I think it will end up around 8 - 8.5. Which is just fine, next year a lot of money moves around and the Flames are fine for cap again. I think this post is just projecting anger in the wrong place, the Leafs have problems they will sort them out, the comparisons you've made are absurd though.

The Bennett offer sheet want a rumour. It was from Eric Francis, who’s making stuff up to get clicks on his article. Who would offersheet a 3rd liner?

Yeah if they want to pay him 4 million then it’s worth it for the Flames IMO
