Trade John Tavares

Created by: RealKyleDubas
Team: 2019-20 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: May 31, 2019
Published: Jun. 5, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Big JT fan but signing him threw the team out of sync and made the contracts too top heavy.

Trade JT, sign Karlsson and Myers. Add strong two way centers to replace JT and Guathier. Add grit to bottom 6 wingers.

= One of the best D core in the league, stronger/tougher forwards and more prospect/pick depth.

if you trade jt, no fa will sign in toronto. it'll send a message that the team is willing to trade a big ticket guy who signed as a fa, so they wouldnt want to sign there either

Tavares would be nice but fitting his 11 million would be hard with you taking subban or ellis's replacement in the deal.

Not to worry he has a full nmc and and 47 goals last season... he’s not going anywhere.

If adding a 47 goal star centre and leader for 11m is throwing anything out of whack I don’t see it.

Are you referring to his bonus structure?

I would this deal in heart beat but poile would have to maneuver a lot to make it fit. This is stupid. This would never happen. Lol

He's amazing but Matthews is the better player and Marner helped Kadri get 30+. When they switched Marner off Bozak's line and on to Kadri's two seasons ago, Kadri scored at a ridiculous rate.

He makes 6.5m less than JT. Kadri + Kapanen + someone else will get you 50+, minimum

11m is a good deal for him right now, San Jose offered him 12-13m the bonus structure though... that will scare some teams off.

what dont u get lmao. they arent comparable. one is an elite center and top 15 center in the league. the other isn't even a top 30 C. plus the long term implications are disastrous

Who they signed for 11m and then had a statistically worse season as a team, while his old team went further they they ever did with him.

SJS has their own cap hell...11M is alot for any team that is contending...but yes, mostly the bonus sucks for anyone outside the original 6 and VAN.

what dont you understand about the long term implications??? No fa would want to sign here! If the team moves him after a year or 2, that sends a msg out to other fa's that this team wont respect you, or your contract. thats a bad bad msg ur sending

Yes I agree which is why this is Capfriendly and not real life. I'm just arguing that this lineup would make the Leafs a better team than the current situation they're in, with zero space to add another D

ppl on this website know me for not liking the leafs, and heck even having a biased opinion on the leafs, but in NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM are the leafs better without JT. You're talking about a 2 headed monster that very few teams possess at C

I hear you. There is the Crosby + Malkin argument, but also the Toews and Kane argument. Matthews can center one line and make that line elite, Marner on the wing can make the next line elite (without Tavares), as Toews and Kane did in Chicago.

To be honest, I can't even remember who Chicago's 2nd line centers have been when they won their cups. Dave Bolland? Kruger? Handzus? Probably not someone as good as Naz.

chicago's D core was an elite d-core, with at least 3 top pairing defensemen whom were pure studs. the leafs dont have that. so u have to play to your strengths. leafs strength is center depth. build from that.

Ya, and on the team I made here the leafs have Rielly, Karlsson, Muzzin and Myers. Obviously unrealistic but my point is that I’d rather have an elite d core like that with Marner and Matthews leading your forwards, than have 33+ million for your top 3 forwards (34 91 16) and have no room for competent d. They are ridiculously top heavy
