That deal is awful for Ottawa. Sens take on that albatross of a contract in Zaitsev, and get frig all in return for helping our worst enemy.

Marleau's cap hit should be 3.0M which means Toronto will be retaining 3.25M.

how does Kadri equal retention on Pernell. I don't even like Pernell, I think he's over rated and over paid. But there is no way that equals Kadri

but do u know how much in actual dollars? and signing bonus leafs would be paying

No more than half of the original contract can be retained so the most Toronto can retain on Dion's contract is 1.75 million (the original contract was 7 and Ottawa is already retaining 1.75). Therefor you're over the cap. Also, this wouldn't work because you can't put Horton on LTIR until the season starts.

Not a chance Phaneuf comes back here. They made giant effort to get rid of him. He's a number 6 or 7 defenceman Rosen would fill that role much better.
