Imagine if Neal bounced back and flames get Kadri

Created by: nomad
Team: 2019-20 Calgary Flames
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 4, 2019

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Imagine if Neal returned to form and was able to effectively play 2RW and put of 20+ goals. It's not impossible!

The leafs trade assumes that TO sees value in getting Brodie at $3.5 for this year and clearing 500K with the Brown to Janko swap. They get their RHD and a 3C and save about 1.5M in the process. Picks balance things out a bit.

Calgary can find a 1A/B goalie to go along with BSD for around 3M I would think.

Love the Kadri trade... I think Kadri to CGY makes a lot of sense

Only thing I would change is I'd rather have Hamonic, but Brodie is good too.

I actually just read that they are considering pulling Hamonic off the block, and trying to extend him. You're also probably not getting the conditional 2nd in a Hamonic deal.

Great lineup! That second line would be a gigantic pain to play against and I think that Leafs trade would be one of the few in the history between the two teams that actually works out for both. I don't get how you can send a 2019 4th pick that upgrades to a second if Brodie doesn't re-sign in the 2020 off season, so that pick would have to be a 2020 one (3rd/conditional 2nd with Toronto sending back their 4th in return). I would see if Kylington could play off-side D (like Brodie does as both are great skaters) on the bottom pair and rotate in with Fantenberg. I think McBackup is staying in Carolina, but we could likely get Varlamov with that $2.25M plus some of the remaining cap on a short term bounce back type of deal, or another veteran backup.

Toronto definitely tries for Hamonic, I can absolutely see Calgary much preferring Brodie. Would be interesting to see who would bend.

Brodie being left handed, even though he plays the right side, I would imagine makes Toronto say no to this. I realize you have some conditional protection on the pick, but Kadri has 3 more years of reasonable salary for a centre and I would hate to lose him for a guy who's a UFA in a year.

I can't see why M Stone would want to waive his NTC to go to NJD.
Not sure Frolik would waive include MIN on his M-NTC either...

Love the TOR deal and the final roster.

I'm one of the folks out there who thinks Neal is going to bounce back in a big way. He's motivated to regain his form and has a full summer to focus his mind -- he's a proud guy with an amazing scoring track record, and an amazing playoff pedigree. He's with a team that is in their window to be competing for the Cup.

If he gets steady minutes with Tkachuk, he's likely to get back to 20 goals too. And if that happens, then CGY has a lethal forward group with the lines you've built out.

Honest question. Why would you even want Brown if you're just going to play him on the fourth line? Expensive fourth liner... kind of why TOR wants to trade him in the first place

Fair question. The thinking there is that there is Value in shedding his salary and only picking up Jankowski's this helps offset the value difference on Brodie / Kadri.

Also, for the flames, he would be a versatile forward to add to the bottom 6. He would be insurance in case Neal doesn't improve, as he could move to 3RW and Bennett to 2RW. Also, if he outplays Bennett, Bennett could drop to 4RW and Brown up to 3RW. Or Bennett could swing to the 3LW if Dube isn't ready and Brown up to 3RW. Gives the Flames some options.

I would think both would waive. Stone will not be getting much playing time in Calgary I suspect. Calgary could accept pretty much anything for him, so maybe it's not NJD, but I could see him off the roster without bringing on any cost.

Frolik with Peters hasn't been a fit. He wants out and based on reports would have been traded to MIN at the deadline (and it didn't fall through because he blocked it).

Well done - I thin 2.2M for Curtis is too much but that is minor - I also believe Neal will bounce back if he has someone like Kadri centering for him!
