That works for you? Works for me. The Flyers would have one of the best Top 4 D's in the league.

It would! And you're right about that, one of if not THE best. Winnipeg gets a promising young RHD to hopefully play beside Morrissey, a solid 3rd pairing D for this year which we need, and a higher draft pick. I think the value's there and it makes sense for both sides.

TB says no, do not need a lefthand project and give you a solid two way forward.

Winnipeg says no thank you! Nobody wants Gudas, and apparently even Philly fans don't because he is in every trade.

That's not true. Gudas is a very good defenseman. He's good #4 and a great #5. His salary is reasonable for what he brings. If he's included in trades for Trouba it's because the Flyers need to clear some cap space to acquire him and Winnipeg isn't only going to want picks and prospects.

Hagg is a solid bottom pair defender signed to a cheap contract. This was supposed to give Tampa a decent and cheap asset for their lineup while clearing cap space.

Okay, maybe, but if Winnipeg is trading their #1 dman. They are not looking for a 4 or 5 guy to replace him. Winnipeg is still in cup mode, but the window is closing. I think everyone would agree that Gudas is probably not the most respected player in the league and I just don't see how he fits in with the culture of the Jets. Jets had a guy named Mark Stuart who was a Gudas comparable. It just didn't work.

The league doesn't respect gritty hard working/hard hitting defensemen? He's got a decent first pass and he's a mostly stay at home defenseman. Gudas is defenseman that will fit wherever he is needed and eat up 20 minutes a night. Myers is the prospect and centerpiece of the return for Trouba along with the 2nd round pick. This is a good return for Trouba, who is an RFA and 1 year away from being a UFA. Everyone knows he doesn't want to stay in Winnipeg.

Maybe they do. I just googled his name and look what comes up " . NBC Sports writer James O’Brien noted Gudas’ growing list of indiscretions in late 2016, writing that “If the Department of Player Safety had a speed dial list of regulars, Gudas would have a prominent spot on it. Hockey writers have described him as reckless and as a player who consistently demonstrates no regard for opponents in vulnerable positions. As a member of the Flyers, he has been referred to by the Philadelphia sports press as a player who “represents everything that the Flyers once were and should no longer aspire to be”, as well as “a cheap-shot aficionado, reckless, careless, damaging to the Flyers' chances of winning and to other athletes' health and safety, a player who can't be trusted by either his teammates or his opponents to play a tough, clean game.”

He had a tendency for dirtier hits earlier in his career. That was 3 years ago. He's cleaned a lot of things up and plays a steady game.

He was suspended in Feb of 2019 for swinging his stick over Kucherov's head, and suspended for 10 games for doing the same to Perrault in late 2017. Here is what George Parros said about him in February 2019. " No matter how forceful the impact he makes is, Gudas must stop using his stick to target the heads of his opponents.”

I don't get why you're making such a big deal over Gudas. He's only signed for one more year. The only real reason for the Flyers to move him is if we pick up better dmen and don't have a roster spot for him. He won the Ashbee Award this year as Flyers best Dman (voted on by players). Granted our defense was pretty bad, so it isn't saying a whole lot but does at least show his teammates respect him. I think he's a solid 5 myself, though this year he probably played a little above that for much of the season. But honestly I wouldn't want to give up Myers. He looks like he's going to be a very good defensive right handed D for years to come and I wouldn't want to move him for another offensive dman, which we already have a few of.

I keep seeing all of these Flyers trades for Trouba, but I don't think that is the right direction. We need to get better defensively. DRASTICALLY better, or we have no chance to be competitive in playoff caliber hockey games.

I agree, he probably is a solid 5. My point was that Philly fans everywhere talk about how good he is and cost controlled. Yet, every trade has him going somewhere else. IMO I don't see Philly as a great trading partner when it comes to Trouba. Philly has so much dman talent in the system that they can wait a year or 2 and probably come out with the best d crew in the league. All i was getting at is that I don't believe Gudas is a player that fits what the Jets are looking for. His track record is horrible, He has been suspended and fined so much over his career and a few years ago went after Giroux and Vorachek in the same practice. Realistically, Would you want him on your team?

He gets involved in these types of trades because he is a return to a team with cap troubles that need defenseman back in a deal, and unless you want Sam Morin or Robert Hagg, Gudas is the cheapest option off our roster. He's not signed past next season so there's no long term commitment, and he can play on a 2nd, preferably 3rd pair and be a solid defensive presence. He was actually very good this season, hence why in a down year for Provorov and Ghost the Flyer's writers/broadcasters voted him the team's best defenseman.

What??? I follow the Flyers religiously and never heard anything about Gudas going after anyone in practice. That would be a monster story around here if something like that happened. I agree there are better fits for him, like Edmonton or Florida. I'd only want to move him if we can add a top 4 ufa or two and would look to just get a mid round pick in return.

i would hate to have to give up gudas, but he has value and could be part of a package that makes sense for us. good thing you're not winnipeg's GM.
