New Jersey Devils Tuch and Subban

Created by: acdevils30
Team: 2019-20 New Jersey Devils
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 14, 2019
Published: Jun. 14, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Vegas trade makes sense as they need to shed cap, not sure if they'd give up Tuch though but with Clarkson coming, can make sense. Subban trade may require more. Though they're a team that needs offense more and if they sign Duchene, need to get some money off the books. Let me know what you think.

I’m a preds fan. Would y’all consider taking out 1 or both prospects in exchange for 2019 first rounder. Also take out 2020 first rounder. Butcher and Hughes/Kaapo for Subban?

Haha, as if! I'm not a Devils fan but am not delusional, you're not getting the 1st OA pick, the trade proposed here is more then fair for PK Subpar.

No chance the Devils give up their first overall for Subban. It would definitely have to be another prospect.

Instead of spending (wasting) 9m on Subban spend about 6m on a UFA(s) and keep your young assets. Anytime a team "needs to shed cap" (Vegas) and then a non factor LTIR is traded, it sure takes any logic away from the trade. Vegas keeps Tuch.

Subban serves as an immediate fix to a problem, also only three years. Trading Butcher makes sense as the Devils have Ty Smith coming up either next year or the following, same player with higher upside in my opinion. Devils also have Davies and Reilly Walsh (if he signs out of Harvard, doubtful in my opinion, will probably hit open market). McLeod gets moved as the Devils already have a log jam at center with Hughes coming in, Hischier, Zacha, and then a need at 4th line center after Zajac. The whole LTIR thing confuses me but I see the Knights have him on IR, not LTIR. With Stone being the big sign in Vegas and Karlsson, Malcolm Subban getting a pay raise, they have to move someone.

Since you guys seem to be NSH fans: is there any truth to the whole PK trade rumors? Or are journalists just trying to gets some clicks between now and the draft.

Two potentially non-NHL players, a LHD that Nashville does not need since they already have Josi/Ekholm on the left side of the top two pairs, and a 1st round pick. The 1st round pick is the only part of the deal the Preds would likely want. So from Nashville's perspective - no, the value is not there. If the Preds are trading Subban, it would most likely be for forward help.

I could see one or two of Smith, Subban, Ellis, Josi, Turris, Bonino traded by the start of next season. I think that the Preds want to trade at least one of their top 4 D before the expansion draft so they can protect 7F - 3D - 1G as opposed to 4F - 4D - 1G. If rumors of Duchene to Nashville turn into reality, they will need to clear a bit of cap space in order to sign him. It's unlikely Poile trades Ellis after just signing him for 8 years, so maybe he will see what kind of forward help Subban could bring back in a trade. It makes sense to trade one of the top 4D though to bring in some extra scoring punch in the top 6.

Two things: one Davies already signed and the Devils have Walsh rights until August 15, 2021. So Walsh would have to play two more years at Harvard before being a UFA, most likely he will sign this year or next year ( which is what Davies did after 3 season at Northeastern). So I am not too worried about Walsh not signing.

Two I believe you cannot but someone on LTIR until around the preseason, so once the season gets close VGK will more Clarkson to LTIR.

It seems most times, guys from Harvard stay four years. Only reason why I see him holding out.

We don’t want pk to be traded if we want to have cap space we have to. It is definitely a possibility. Most likely a draft day trade

Butcher is already a good defenseman and is young, if this trade happened it'd allow them to trade Ekholm for a solid return if they wanted to and sets them up for a cheaper LD for after Josi gets a fat raise. McLeod is a former 1st round pick added with another 1st plus a prospect is more then enough for Subban and his hefty contract.

You can justify it all you want, but the preds have no use for any of that package other than the 1st. If subban is traded, it is for forward help.

Well that and to rid themselves of a bloated contract and a dressing room cancer.

I'm not a Devils fan, would never want him on any team I cheered for, he's a total liability in the defensive zone.
