Seen this possibility on twitter

Description
I seen this deal with the ducks on twitter (not a reliable source). It also mentioned that picks and prospects would be going each way, no mention of what that entailed.

The deal makes a little sense, Ducks could use a RHD and Marleau gives them a cheap roster player (salary wise) after July 1st. Seems like a large cap hit to take on for them however.

I think it will only make sense for the leafs if Kesler is truly done, but if there is any possibility of him returning, then it makes no sense for the leafs to take on that term and cap hit. Thoughts?

Also, thoughts on the Vegas/Oilers trades? Fair value? Open for discussion, welcome any constructive feedback.

Like your reasons for the Ducks not doing the trade.....to much of cap hit. And for the Leafs hate the thought of Kesler being deemed fit at in 2020. Then there is Kesler's NTC..
I'd be happy just trading one of Marleau or Zaitsev for no return to just to get cap space.
Miller is he is a competent RHD NHLer....he seems to be, he gets NHL compensation in return in a trade

Kap and Johnsson should get more. I think the Marner deal is pretty spot on. Also it's; saw not "seen"

Agreed, can't really take a chance of having Kesler return. I absolutely would welcome just cap space in any Marleau or Zaitsev trade.

I think with Vegas cap trouble and Miller's play last season, you may be able to get Miller for less than he is worth. Borgman seems to have a future in the league, along with a couple of draft picks, I thought that would be decent compensation. What do you feel would be fair compensation?

Maybe slash a year off the Kapanen and Johnsson deals, I am thinking they will get a 2-3 year bridge, 2 years more likely to keep the cap hit around 3. People on here saying those guys will be getting 4+ million, but that would be overpayments on bridge deals.I am hoping Marner comes in around 10, but I am thinking it will be closer to 10 and a half.

Also, thanks for keeping me on my toes grammar police lol

You're not getting Miller for a 2nd and random AHL defenseman Borg Man.

Guys who score 21 goals and 40+ points are worth every bit of $3M to $4M regardless of a 3 or 2 year deal. Over $4M is too much and think those players are more exposed to offer sheets potentially then a player like Marner who I don't believe anyone would offer sheet given the size of his deal and (4) 1sts coming back.

No problem on the grammar smile

Fair enough, although Borgman is hardly random, 23 year old D who seems to have a future in the league. Played half of a season in the NHL last year, was a plus player, seems to have some sandpaper to his game. 5-6 D at best though for sure, had some injury trouble this season, got leap-frogged by Rosen on the depth chart.

How about Timashov/other prospect/picks?

Considering Miller was a healthy scratch this year and he was put on the market to clear cap space, what do you feel would be fair compensation?

Yes I was hoping it would be near 3 million on a bridge deal. On the open market UFAs are paid like that for sure, but hoping that RFA status will keep it closer to 3 on a 2 year bridge. The threat of an offer sheet is more likely with these players as opposed to Marner though, I definitely agree with that.

Gostisbehere was a healthy scratch too, doesn't mean he's worth a 2nd and a 23yo ahler.

Fair offers would be Scott + 2nd and Lindgren, 2020 1st, Bracco + 2nd and 3rd etc.

Maybe it will come in the middle of my offer and some of those, they are a little too rich for Miller IMO. If Vegas wants that, they may have a hard time trading him, or Leafs would hopefully look elsewhere.

Most CapFriendly folks think ANY RHD are potential winners. But Miller is an NHLer so I think he would worth at least a good prospect if Vegas doesn't want NHL cap back. Borgman gee, he really fallen, don't think he is even a prospect now Korshov and second or Bracco. Either way if Miller is on the market, gotta think the Leafs will be having competition for his services.

Yeah it is annoying the overvaluing of RHD on this site. Borgman had some injury troubles last year, but he had a solid rookie season when he played 48 games with the leafs and was a plus player, see what he does this year.

I agree on those proposals though, they would be fair value for Miller for sure. I would prefer to do Korshkov and a Second over Bracco though, I think Bracco will be a leaf next season. Competition will be expected absolutely, he has a great contract and we can't forget shoots right !
