My prediction: three years from now, Erik Karlsson is Ryan Kesler.

No it isn't
This is a few years old but the metrics still apply today
Unless it's a top 5 pick , it's pretty much a crapshoot
10 - Generational
9 - Elite Player
8 - First Line, Top Pair D
7 - Top Six Forward, Top Four D
6 - Top Nine Forward, Top Six D
5 - NHL Regular
4 - Fringe NHLer
3 - Very Good Minor Leaguer
2 - Minor Leaguer, under 50 NHL games
1 - 10 or fewer NHL games
No. 10
Average Rating: 4.68
Best: Nik Antropov, Radek Dvorak, Cody Hodgson, Jocelyn Thibault.
Worst: Boris Valabik, Mikhail Yakubov, Brad Ference.
Ranked 7 or better: 0.0%
Ranked 5 or worse: 63.2%
At least 100 NHL games (or extremely likely): 80.0%
They average between a fringe & a regular NHLer

Certainly no cap circumvention. But you have just given the Ducks 6.25m in unwanted cap hit Kesler doesn't affect the cap at all as long as he's on LTIR.

Considering the luck that Benning and Co. have had at the draft I’d take my chances with that pick
