How come? I don't think that's a bad deal at all. They get another 1st round pick and Frost - a very good prospect and a natural centre which they need, not to mention plenty of cap refief to fit in Myers, Connor, and Laine (plus others).

This would be pressing the panic button. The jets have the cap space to do all of that (if they trade Perreault and Kulikov). Ehlers should not be traded for futures. The PIT pick will most likely not be as good as ehelrs and nor will frost. even if one is their age is not in line with the rest of the core. Ehlers for a guy like pesce is a trade I could get behind and is most likely the only ehlers trade that is not pressing the panic button.

Ehlers has the skill set to become a top winger in the league. Frost and the first are questionable.

Honestly, I do not think this is even enough for the jets to consider. and ehlers trade would take a serious overpayment by the team acquiring him as the jets do not need to move him. A trade I saw was Larsson and their 2019 1st (7 OA) for ehlers and comrie. another one I saw was ehlers for Larsson, JP, 38 OA. A MTL one was Juulsen/Brook, 1st, 2nd. All that being said this is neither enough nor makes sense for the jets

Jets fan here. doesn't make much sense for a near contender/contender like the jets. Frost is not NHL ready IMO and the 1st isn't that high. This would only create more holes on the roster

The only Ehlers trade that makes sense is for brett pesce who is signed for similar term, is cheaper, and would fill a need at RD

I think frost will be a better player than Ehlers , but we can not know until he play

Ehlers is only scratching the surface in terms of his potential. not to mention that he is our fastest player.
Therefore, I humbly disagree

Probably, but it's been well documented that the Pens would probably like to add more picks by moving down as the farm is getting thin. If it wasn't Flyers - Pens I think it's fairly realistic.

I take all the points you're making, I guess the Jets would rather move a guy like Perreault but obviously there won't be much return for him. WPG has built well from drafting and acquiring young talent, that feels more in their wheelhouse.

I don't think either of these trades are much better. Obviously the 7thOA pick is a big haul but Larsson is meh though I guess it serves a need. I don't think JP has much value here although I do think he could potentially still shine elsewhere. His trade value is minimal - EDM basically had the choice to get anything at all for him or he's going to the KHL and they get nothing. Juulsen is massively overhyped by the MTL fans who say he's the second coming but also include him in every deal (not saying he's trash, just not as high as implied)... I don't think Frost has less value that him.

I can see that perhaps my deal is short though. What if the 2020 1st was added?

I'm not saying your deal is bad (though making it your 1st rather than Pit would make it fair). I am saying that it doesn fit the jets' need they would address by trading ehlers.
The Larsson trade gives us a guy to replace trouba in his shutdown role. don't forget we can also draft a potential star with 11 OA. Puju could be very good and be viewed as a replacement for ehlers and 38 OA could get us a good prospect who slipped out of the 1st round. Juulsen/brook address a need long-term on the right side as both project to be top 4 RD. We are also getting potentially 15 OA and a 2nd.

What most people do not get on this site is that the only ehlers trade that makes sense for the jets is for a trouba replacement on the top pairing (only defensively of course) or for a 2nd line C. Not to mention that the acquired player needs to be similar age and on a long-term contract

I haven’t heard anything about them actually wanting to move down. I’ve heard they’d be willing to trade the pick to win now, but all I’ve heard is that media talking heads have brought it up as an idea. But the farm system isn’t necessarily thin with bodies, just talent. So what’s good moving down when you can get better talent. I’ve heard they are more in the idea of moving guys like Rust, Hornqvist, Bjugstad, Gudbranson, JJ to get mid-lower draft picks and build their farm that way. The pens have a bunch of prospects who likely end up as bottom 6/bottom pair D. They are thin on guys who have a top 6/top 4 D ceiling.
