The Canucks best RHD addition option

Description
Don’t know if Shattenkirk would waive for VAN, but they could offer him a spot to help mentor Hughes. With only two more years on his deal and rumours that the Rangers want to get rid of his contract, this could be the best fit for the Canucks; way better contractually than Zaitsev or Myers.

I think Zaitsev at 4.5 is better than both Shattenkirk at 6.65 or Myers at almost anything over 6.

Except Zaitsev has 5 more years on his deal. If he can’t regain his rookie season form then VAN would have another bad long term deal on their hands. I know Shattenkirk isn’t anywhere near the player he used to be, but with only 2 years left on his deal there’s almost no risk in acquiring him.

If the Canucks take on all of Shattenkirk's salary, they could definitely get him for a reduced price. But more than just a salary dump in Biega. While it's nice to bury him in the minors for no charge, would need a 3rd attached. Or maybe a Leivo or Goldobin. Some variation.

Goldobin + 3rd would actually be win-win-win... Canucks get rid of a logjam of bubble players in Goldy and a mentor for Hughes/Juolevi, Goldy gets a fresh start on a team with young players and a bunch of ice time up for grabs, and NYR gains a potential offensive threat as well as shedding Shattenkirk's contract. I like that.

Considering the Rangers are reportedly considering a buyout if they can’t find a trade partner, I think just Goldobin straight up for Shattenkirk would be more than fair without adding any picks.

Not buying him out. Year 2 of the Buyout (as of the way his Contract is structured) is a back breaker. Even if he isn't the player he was, he is still a competent RHD. There is enough value there to move him than to resort to a Buyout.
