He has similar numbers to Marner (more goals) and a physical presence. He deserves more money than him. Plus you have to avoid Calgary matching the offer

Colorado is really high on Zaitsev since they are going to end up trading Tyson Barrie. The trade has more value than you think

That's an excellent thought. Kadri, Zaitsev, a second and a sixth is an excellent package for Barrie and Jost. Tyson Barrie will never be as good as Cale Makar.

I think you're getting confused here. The trade was for Cale Makar, not Tyson Barrie.

Phaneuf learned a lot from the leadership group they had in LA winning multiple stanley cups. Many teams were interested in him but not at the cap hit he was at so he was bought out. He is familiar with the leafs organization and could provide a veteren presence on the blue line. It is important to let Kapanen and Johnson walk as they will demand too much of a cap hit.

No, you're the one who's confused -- you obviously think Nikita Zaitsev and Cale Makar are comparables. Have you even seen Cale Makar play?

Zaitsev had a very promising rookie season. Cale Makar has yet to even play a full season. Colorado would surely want a proven talent over a player who "might be" good one day

I see that you are new to this site, so perhaps you are somewhat new to hockey. Some young players are so demonstrably full of talent that one can anticipate how good they are going to be, and Nikita Zaitsev has played long enough that we all know, more or less, what his final level of achievement is likely to be. Think of Cale Makar as having roughly the same trade value as Mitch Marner. Both were taken fourth overall in the amateur draft, both are going to be stars in this League for years to come, and Cale Makar is going to be the next young defenseman to get Norris Trophy consideration. "Proven talent" is preferred over "unproven talent" only when the expected talent levels are the same. You wouldn't be making this argument about Jack Hughes or Kaapo Kakko, so you shouldn't make it about Cale Makar or Bowen Byram.

I am not new to hockey man I have watched my whole life and I played house league for 10 seasons and select for 1/2 a season before I was cut. I do not see the value in waiting on Cale Makar over a proven player like Zaitsev. There is no guarente Cale Makar will get "Norris Trophy consideration". Look at guys like Nail Yakupov and even Alex Daigle from the past. I'm sure people had the same level of praise for them too. Nothing in the future is guaranteed so you need to capitalize on the best deal available (what I put together)

Let me interject here.,. I usually let people have their own opinions but yours is so wrong I have to butt in. Zaitsev is more likely to be traded for a unicorn than Makar.

At least other people put forth valid arguments even if I disagree with them. You did nothing but come to this thread and try and discredit me without any analysis of the team I put together. Look at the link in the post above to the youtube video. A lot of the analysts are starting to agree with me.
