Description
Hey Vegas Fans! Isles fan here. Given Vegas' CAP issues I'm wondering what it would take to pry guys like Smith and/or Marchessault away from Vegas to help give them some CAP breathing room...

What would it take?

Submit offers for each player individually and/or both as a pair.

I don't think Marchy and/or Smith will be moved. It'll most likely be the 3rd and 4th liners such as Haula, Eakin or Reaves and the corpse of Clarkson.

That being said, Marchy could command a 1st round pick and a prospect. Great contract for a top 6 forward. Smith (albeit a little inconsistent throughout his career) will probably land what Ottawa got for Dzingel (2 seconds and a player). I've also heard Miller's name in rumors.

Gotcha. I've heard rumors that the CAP situation could lead to guys like Smith, Marchessault, Statsny or Pacioretty being moved and with Karlsson now signed that just makes the situation worse. Plus it looks like Tuch is ready to take over a Top 6 role with the team, so figured Marchessault or Smith were the likely candidates to be moved.

What are Vegas' biggest needs?

I'd say Vegas's need is an offensive impactful dman. Obviously these don't come cheap, but if Vegas could get one for the price of Smith and Eakin or Haula and maybe some picks, I think they'd pull the trigger.

Hmm, what about something built around Leddy, a prospect (Ho-Sang/Bellows type) and some picks (1st and 2nd?) for Smith and Marchessault? Vegas saves about 5m in CAP space, gets an offensive D man under contract for 3 more years and some young, cheap players and picks... so something like:

Leddy, Bellows, 2020 1st and 2021 2nd for Smith and Marchessault?

Leddy and Smith's contracts are a wash, so Vegas would be saving Marchessaults CAP hit, while also getting Bellows and picks.

I just don't think Vegas wants to part with both Smith and Marchessault. The package may be fair, but it also might be too much change for Vegas.

Isles could offer something like Bode Wilde and a 1st for Marchessault. He's another year from being NHL ready, but he's a great prospect and a good fit for what Vegas needs. I'd add Mayfield if Vegas added something small like a forward prospect or a mid-round pick. This would make room for Dobson if the Isles believe he's NHL ready this year, which it sounds like they do.

Mayfield, Wilde, 1st for Marchessault and a 4th?

That's a fair assessment, thanks for the input. Curious as to what you'd offer for Leddy, using Smith or Marchessault as a starting point?

That's a hard sell on the Isles side, not necessarily unfair, just a hard thing to say yes to. Mayfield proved himself to be a capable 2nd pairing D man last year and Wilde was just amazing last year after being burned in the 1st round of the draft.

What about something along the lines of Mayfield and a 1st for Marchessault and Haula? Saves you guys about 6-7m in CAP space and we get to keep Wilde? Maybe a lesser D prospect as well can be added on the Isles side.
