Marner wants a Matthews contract. He gets an extra 1M on a 5 year and Kerfoot gets 4Mx4yr. Need to face it someone still has to go.

and Nylander wanted a Draisatl contract. Didn't happen. Kerfoot will file for arbitration and likely get 3-3.2 apparently. at 6 years Marner will be 10-10.5, and 3 or 5 years Marner will be 9-9.9.

@OP, I like the lines, I think Marchment is in the AHL, Agostino takes his spot. I think Kerfoot replaces Moore on 2LW to start and I think Shore starts as 4C with Spezza at 3C

Yeah you’re probably right. Agostino and Shore both have NHL experience. And with Babs we know tie goes to the veteran.

im pretty sure the consensus on them was however it was spread they would get 6-7mil combined for anyone who knew the leafs and the players well. Might be a one off with one fan, but I doubt a ton legitimately thought that.
Kerfoot is filing for arbitration so his deal will be 1yr, and around 3m. Marner is asking for Matthews money. When has an RFA player not named Crosby or Mcdavid ever got even 90% of what they asked.

Aho just got 8.5 he was asking 9. Toronto may not want to pay Marner but some team will.

If you would rather have 4 firsts over Marner anything you have said previously is void. Marner is the best player on your team and you want 4 picks that probably won’t be anywhere near the player that Marner is or won’t be regular contributors to your team for anywhere from 4-7 years. Good luck bud maybe your grandkids can see the leafs win a cup.

if you look at the teams that can afford Marner and not have any concerns with signing there prospects in the next few years, they suck. At least 2 of the 4 picks would be top 5. Marner is not the best player on the team. He is no better than Aho, Rantanen or Point. If the leafs wanted to, they could likely flip those 3 of those first rounders for a player of that calibre. There is a reason there is no offer sheet for Marner yet. He is not worth 4 first rounders, and if you ask anyone else logical on here, they would agree that there may be only 5 players in the world worth 4 lottery picks right now. you say 4-7 years, yet Marner, Nylander, and Matthews all put up over 60 points in their first season.

man I see a ton of you people on here. Bitter that the leafs are actually looking decent for once and reaching so far to say that they are going to ruin it all. The leafs keep Marner on a reasonable cap? great, likely 80+ points a year for the next 8 years. The leafs lose Marner to an offer sheet? great, 4 high 1st rounders that can be flipped, or the leafs can draft and retool with cheap ELCs. Really a win-win.

It’s funny when it comes to paying Marner all of a sudden he’s no better than those guys but once the who would you rather have question comes up leaf fans have 838479293 reasons why Marner is better than any of them. And BTW 5 of the 12 teams with more cap available than the leafs made the playoffs last year. The only way you’re gonna get those guys from their teams is by sending them an offer sheet that their team can’t afford. Not by trade. So those 1st pick you get won’t get you a player like Marner.

any non biased leafs fan could state at any time that Marner is a great player, but also a product of his surroundings. I would say him and Rantanen are similar. Rely on MacKinnon/Tavares. I would say Point and Aho are better. I would rather have Marner/Rantanen on the leafs because they are wingers, the leafs don't need a 3rd line C at 9million. And okay, look at those 5 teams. Carolina, 11m in space, 8.5 going to Aho. St. Louis with Barbashev, Fabbri, Sanford, Sundqvist and Binnington likely taking up at least of 10 of their 13 million. Columbus with Werenski taking up a ton of Cap, then Pierre Luc Dubois, Josh Anderson and Korpisalo signing big tickets next summer. Winnipeg have Laine, Pionk, Copp, Connor taking up well over 15 million. Colorado have Rantanen, Burakovsky, Zadorov, Compher now, and Girard/Jost the following year. Don't just look at cap, look at how full their roster is too. Im not saying any one of those 4 first round picks will be Marner. But if 3/4 are top 10, or 2/4 are top 5. You are all but guaranteed one 60+ point guy if you draft properly.
