Why? Why would Kerfoot get 3.5 on a 2 year deal? Kapanen and Johnsson signed for more years and got less than that. Kerfoot spent much of his career so far as a winger, Johnsson and Kap are comparables. I could see a 1 year show me deal for him to see how he fits in TO and then give him 2-3 in January.

I am not an expert on Kerfoot since he just got here, but the concensus is that he will get $3.5 on a 1 year deal in arbitration and more term means more AAV for young players.
The argument would be the same as why marner is getting less than matthews. Centers get paid more.

Hyman and Dermott won’t be on LTIR. They are only out for a month, they will be on theIR and cap would still count. You are over by 3 million

I am not sure its a good idea to join a team and immediately file for arbitration. I don't think the Leafs will low ball him, but offering him 2 years a 3 mill is fair or 1 year at 2.9 just see how he fits. Even if he does, who are good comparables, Johnsson, Hyman, Kapanen are good comparables on his own (new) team. On a 1 year deal, I don't think he can win the argument that he's worth more than 3 direct comparables on his own team. But you never know. Either way I think he'll sign a short deal and see how things look in TO.

They will miss 10 games each, that makes them eligible for LTIR. So you are incorrect.

I think a 1 year deal is likely. 2.9 is fair, but probably low.

Aho at 8.5x5. Why would the worse player get around the same cap hit for a much shorter term?

Marner has put up more points than Aho every year since they came into the league. How is he the 'worse' player?

They're comparable for sure.
One plays Center and best line mate is Teuvo Teravainen, one is a winger who plays with John Tavares....

The contracts should be close. and on a 2 year bridge - a million less than Aho's 8.5 seems more than fair.

If you look at numbers other then points then you see who is the better player. Marners production sky rocketed because of JT. Before JT he was scoring around the same pace of nylander. Marner had far better linemates and without JT he was bad, aho had weaker linemates but almost scored as many points while playing the harder position. Goals are also worth more then assists

That is not entirely correct, he didn't play well with Bozak and JVR in his 2nd year, bounced around the lineup before moving up to play with Kadri and Marleau where he scored at a 90 point pace over the second half of the season.
