I'm a habs fan, and I'll admit that he is doing a great job so far! But comes a point where I believe it would be better for the leaf longterm to trade Marner for assets.

Let's face it, Marner is a great player, but his value is greatly inflated because of Tavares.

after signing him... you'll end up maneuvering the cap every summer... and be forced to trade more pieces.

Get a great offer, and work long term with the two great centers you have now. 11M for a winger is way too much.

Paul Marner declines and laughs. He is asking for 12 million per season. Also, I have spoken to many girls and they all told me that they would rather have Nylander on their team over Marner. If they can only keep one of them, it’s Nylander all day long because he is more worth his contract and has elite chemistry with Matthews. So say goodbye to Marner.

I agree with everything you said. The only hard part of trading Mitch that Tavares signed cause he wanted to play with him.

Yeah I see what you mean, this summer is looking good so far for Dubas but next season is another ball game .... they have their forward core locked in so that won't be an issues for 3-4 seasons ... but Rielly is the only Dman locked in next season with Dermott as an RFA ... the good news is they'll have roughly 15-17M in cap space to spend on defence. I don't think it's gonna be an issues going forward TBH ... sure Marner takes up a lot of space but toronto still has a ton of assets up front, and more specifically on the RW. If Kapanen keeps improving, and Bracco pans out I can see them trading Nylander for defensive help/cap relief. Right now Nylanders value is pretty low, I have no doubt he can put up 70+ with a full training camp and starting the season on time ... his value might be pretty high next summer that they could swap him for help ... and re-sign either Barrie or Muzzin.

I wish him well!

Habs are gonna face a similar scenario in 2021, so I can sympathize.
