Final part coming tonight with breakdown of all teams involved especially Montreal's.
Trades
CGY
  1. Réway, Martin
Additional Details:
2016 1st round pick (9th)
2016 2nd round pick (39th)
2016 5th round pick (124th)
MTL
  1. Wideman, Dennis
Additional Details:
2016 1st round pick (6th)

Analysis:
If your CGY, let's say Brown is the guy your targeting with your pick and moving up is not an option, Mtl convinces you that:

MTL will not take Brown with any pick they will have from 1-8th (Lets say they move up another way)
After speaking with Arizona and Buffalo (7th and 8th), they make it known that they will take whoever is available between Juolevi/Sergachyov based off the idea that Tkachuk-Dubois-Brown will be taken with the 4,5,6th pick. Therefore Brown will be available at the 9th pick.

You get the player in the draft you want in Brown, they get rid of Wideman's contract, they get an additional 2nd and 5th round pick.

CGY fans, do you make this trade?

I think the Flames will take Brown anyway, so the answer is yes

NO - reason is we don't want / need brown - we have some reasonable depth at center... what we need is a goalie and a top line right winger... We will probably end up settling for a LW in the draft and try to fill the 2 positions of need through UFA or trades...

Ok fair enough, switch Brown with Nylander then. Would you do it then?

Lots of C end up switching to wing in pro, Burke placed an emphasis on size and skill heading into the draft, so there's that. I hope not but I could see it happening

Btw your missing the point with my proposal. It could be any one of the players that would be available to that point. Brown, Nylander, Jost, Keller, etc

Only way I do this is If there's a gurauntee Nylander or Keller is available at 9.
Which you can't do even if your montreal tehre's still two teams below you.

Read my description. Both Arizona and Buffalo are almost certainly looking to add dmen. (Juolevi/Sergachev/Chyrchun)

I think trading down to 9 is very likely. Not entirely sure if Habs would have to accept a bad contract to get it done, but maybe. I see they have $9M in cap space and no essential RFAs so maybe...would depend how aggressive the Habs want to be in UFA.

If Nylander is available at 8 (unless they can sign Vesey before the draft), Buffalo will take him.

I highly doubt that. Not with prime young LH dmen available. They have forward prospects for days as is. They either need a goalie upgrade or a top prospect Dman to play with Risto. Mccabe and Bogo can play second pairing together. Sure Nylander is the sexier pick maybe but thinking about team needs, A sergachev or Juolevi will be their prerogative.

Anyone got any insight on what Wideman's NMC clause is? Is it in the realm of possibility that he would come to Montreal? We'd give him top line minutes for the remainder of his contract this year as Subban would be traded in my scenario and Subbans eventual replacement would be coming to Montreal the year after. So we would suffer though mediocre defense only for this year.

Wideman has a full NMC, hopefully the Flames can pressure him into waiving it if there's a team willing to take him.

Replacing Subban with Wideman is a completely awful idea if you ask me but hey that's your business.

Its not meant to be anywhere close to an actual replacement for Subban. Simply a band-aid until all the other chickens fall into place. At least Wideman since he's added to this trade, can log some decent minutes for the Habs and maybe pot in some goals on the PP.
