Description

Trading Ehlers allows the Jets to sign all their RFA pool (Laine, Connor, Copp and Pionk) and the return is good: a top prospect C (Bowers), a good prospect RHD (Meloche) and a good established forward (Calvert).

Gusev: Vegas cannot give him all the $$$ he wants. Guy is clearly a gamble. Worth it? I don't know... but I'm ready to ship Kamenev, Greer and Nieto to Vegas in this trade. For the risk related to Gusev (maybe he's Vadim Shipachyov 2.0) I'm asking for a 2nd rounder pick that comes with.

I don't think either team does either trade.
Gusev would be a nice add, but LV wouldn't want that much salary back. They want a young prospect and a decent draft pick. Nieto does nothing for them.

Winnipeg doesn't give up Ehlers for that return, and the Avs don't want his contract for the role he would play. 6 million X 6 more years would complicate extending Landeskog, Girard, Makar, and MacKinnon when their contracts are up.

Both of the others are decent prospects, Bowers more than Meloche.
Bowers was picked up from Ottawa in the Duchesne deal. He just finished his college career and will probably spend this coming year in the AHL.
Meloche is a possible depth D.
