Created by: Frankyhabs
Team: 2019-20 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 17, 2019
Published: Jul. 17, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Leafs add a solid RHD (top4) with a perfect contract for them (4 more years unlike barrie/muzzin). They also save 3m on the cap. NJ add Nylander, best player of the trade. Leafs fan, other than not liking the trade, does that lineup is better !!? If some change of lines are needed plz tell me.

Like I said, Kap goes before Will. Try this deal with Kap w/ the Leafs adding a bit.

I say they both stay.... think the leafs roster is set... just waiting for Mitch to sign. Maybe another cheap ufa or pto but that’s about it. Kappy and Nylander are both staying.

The ++ would probably have to be Liljegren

Lol... no thanks. Devils can keep him. I wouldn’t make any moves like that.

OMG everyone just stop! Take a second to look at this:

Why are we trading Nylander, a far better and more individually talented player than Marner, plus is considerably cheaper? If anyone goes, it’s Marner.

The Leafs should absolutely NOT keep Marner if he asks for anything similar to Matthews money. It’s 6.5 million maximum for him or it ain’t happening.

I know, I’m just saying that’s what his value should be.

Id argue his value is around the 8 range if Nylander is at 7. Marner is closer to Will than AM34

I disagree. Ever since entering the league, no player has scored more even strength goals than Matthews, Marner is absolutely not in the same category in terms of individual ability. In fact, even William Nylander is a better individual player than Mitch Marner. So far in their careers, Nylander’s Corsi for is 54% whereas Marner’s is only 40%. In fact, each star forward on the Leafs found more success playing with Nylander than with Marner. Kadri has a .86 G/60 playing with Nylander and .85 playing with Marner. Van Riemsdyk has a 1.33 G/60 playing with Nylander and 1.18 with Marner. Tavares has a 6.27 G/60 playing with Nylander and 1.53 with Marner. Matthews has a 1.53 G/60 with Nylander and a 1.04 with Marner. This suggests that Marner doesn’t have a lot of individual talent plus his all round game is lacking. He has been riding on success playing with elite centres such as Nazem Kadri and John Tavares. On his own he is average at best.

He’s a struggling prospect. May be able to handle bottom pair type of role with sheltered minutes. Wouldn’t give up more than a 4th for him.

Agree. But feel he could be a reclamation project worth giving a shot to see if there's anything there. What about Ceci (when Dermot comes back) and a 2nd for Janmark and Honka? Would that work? Or better to just send a 4th for Honka alone?

I think ceci has more upside than honka.

Matthews has 86 goals at even strenght
Mcdavid has 92 goals at even strenght since Matthews plays in the NHL

Me too. Just throwing some ideas out there as I think those two (depending on cost of acquisition) could be a good fit for the leafs. But we'd probably be better just sending a 4th to see if Honka can stick.
