While, I think jettisoning Namestnikov and Strome for picks isn't necessarily the right move, neither is buying out Shatty. He's not terrible and you get next to no relief in year two of the buyout.

If everybody would chill out, take a step back and realize that Shat was shatty, slow feet and head. It seems like nobody wants him even @2x3.325. I guess it's better than having him play here for 6.65m. Staal with limited minutes is still serviceable and actually looked good last year before tiring out. Smith can be buried. The real question is next year Hank will have to accept trade or buy out.

i agree with you. no one wanting shat for 50% says it all. nyr can manage the cap next year even with hank on the team. kreider, strome and vlad come off the books which will free up over 11 mill. they should still be able to sign 1 big free agent next summer as well.
