same

buying out Smith (+ Namesnikov or Strome trade) is still a better option than buying out Shattenkirk

Same here then I googled Shattenkirk news and there are quite a few articles on why the buyout makes sense. If NYR buys out Shattenkirk would he sign a deal for $1m?

I have kind of an irrelevant question but which goalie is better at their best, Andrej Vasilevsky or Matt Murray? Why?

almost all of them are versions of Larry Brooks article... honestly it's the worst decision as they are tied up for almost 6m next year. A buyout of Namestnikov costs 1.3m the next two years (saving 2.7m this year) and a buyout of smith costs 970k, 3.1k, and 1.1k for two years (saves over 3m this year). 3m + 2.7m = 5.7m which is enough to get DeAngelo signed + get them under, then they just have to send Nieves and McKegg down to get Lemieux, and then throw beleskey in the minors to call up Kravtsov.

Overall, Shattenkrik is worth keeping over Namestnikov and Smith, and it saves them more money since Nams and Smith don't have as much bonus money. Plus if shattenkirk can somewhat return to form it's an easy win

The Larry Brooks article in the Post was the only one I read all the through. I only googled it because of this proposal.
