Bringing back Shattenkirk

Description
Shatty was bought out. I'm not sure how cheap he would be so this is a bit of a stab that he's worth about 3M but his relative CF% and relative xGF% were both still very good last year (4.22 and 1.21 respectively) vs Edmundson who had a negative relative CF% adn negative xGF% so I think even aside form cool reunion storylines and realizing it thins the Blues on LHD a bit (although I'm very high on Gunnarsson and pretty high on Pouliot so I'm actually way cool with this all around) I think it would eb a good pickup

highly doubt he signs anywhere for 3 mil... unless its in like Ottawa. Blues wouldn't pay him more than 1.5 mil i wouldn't think.

Definitely a much better option than Edmundson at that price. I’d make sure the term is super limited because Reinke can fill that spot in the very near future

nobody wanted anything to do with him for 6.5M + what would have to be traded away for 2 months. He's a good player who can now be had for cheaper vs the cap and with no talent given up.

absolutely. This trade straight transferred ti at 2 years, realistically it's probably more of a 3 year deal but 2 years is probably ideal and close enough so I'll take it

I think it could even be a one year deal. I feel like GM's are gonna force him to sign a "prove it deal" which is funny because he's not even bad

It was widely reported the rangers were offering 50% salary retention. And now I see people offering him 3-4m. Some people don’t understand how this works. Obviously nobody wants him at 2x$6.65m. Now that he’s already making that money, he will probably sign somewhere for 1-2 years at 1-1.5m. What a deal...he actually gets a raise because he was such a bum.

Anyone could have had him at 3.3. Probably could have gotten a draft pick out of the deal, too.

Anyway, he’s gone and that’s fine. It should have been Staal but we knew the front office wouldn’t do that. Time to move on. Likely means Kreider is a goner. No money in next year’s budget to pay for an extension

maybe, it's kind of a wild card at this point. People could have had him at 3.3 but maybe the Rangers didn't wanna do that without getting something in return since his cap relief from the buyout is so much bigger this year and that's when they need it so why not buy him out if you're getting nothing back and maybe those teams want him at 3 or 3.3 without giving anything up. Or maybe they just don't even want him for 3 and 2 is too pricey. I really don't know. You might be right. This is still the best I can do on CF without doing a "create a player" (I realized this option after the fact) until they update for the buyout and it was close enough IMO

Anyway if the Blues do get him Eddy is gone so same difference except maybe more cap space? I dunno

Yeah that is true, I think Eddy might be gone either way. Have a feeling arbitration is going to favor him at 3.5 or more.

Shatty would be a nice piece to help the powerplay for sure. I proposed a Steen for Shatty and a 3rd trade a while back. Now, Shat-Deuces at $2 million and keeping Steen even better.
