Ek's value is deteriorating pretty fast. Still decent value but not like before. If it drops more over the next year, this trade makes sense. MIN gets a better defenseman for longer plus Boyd can be the team's 4th C for years to come.

No sense blowing up the team and in no way should they re - sign Holtby unless Samsonov suffers a career ending injury.

I agree. They just won the cup a year ago and if Kempny and Oshie stay healthy who knows what happens last season. Could have been back 2 back. ESP since Boston has won 1 game vs the caps is 5 years

Yeah I'm cool with going for it one more time with Holtby and letting him walk and then we are out of cap hell next season. We'll have Copley, Samsonov, and Vitacek to all compete for starts.

I think the Caps sign a cheaper veteran to get starts next year at goalie and let Copley, Samsonov and Vitacek compete for the backup spot.
