I don’t think Palat waives for NJD, and nor do I think they want to move Vatanen. But Verhaeghe definitely deserves a chance, and because he’s too old to be exempted from waivers and obviously wouldn’t clear, the Lightning can’t keep him in Syracuse. They could scratch him all the time, but I don’t see why they would. He’ll definitely get his chance. At the very least, if someone gets injured, he will be the replacement since he’ll have to already be on the NHL roster.

why wouldn't they move Vatanen? They have Subban, Severson (both top4) and Carrick then.

Given the acquisitions of Gusev, Palat will need to play in the top9 and yes, he has his full-NTC clause.

I feel like NJ underpaid but great to see " not a stupid " trade for once

It cause while is Vatanen is right ahot, he plays as LHD.
They are gonna keep to Paris with Subban or Severson.

They already have 4 capable LHDs in Butcher, Greene, Smith and Mueller, so in a sense Vatanen is disposable.

Not a bad trade .. but putting Cirelli at wing ain't going to happen .. he a 2C ceiling guy with Stamkos moving to RW this or next year .. Tampa short a RD .. period. 1 year contract of Vertanen also makes sense. He and Colburn will be gone next year and Serg could take that money or Vertanen could be backup if Mc Donough has to go but REALLY dont want that. His 6.5M AAV for next 5 years is a steal and him and Cernek as shut down D is perfect.
