Leafs all in

Created by: Liamthepro
Team: 2019-20 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 8, 2019
Published: Aug. 8, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Just look at the sick team assembled here. And done with two fair trades, that young Leafs cast offs could easily make into win-wins.
Smart trades and smart money spent. That has been Dubas' M.O. to date.
Also I want to let fringe players vie for roles elsewhere. The Leafs are stacked, might as well jettison fringe guys with potential to play some on a non-monster team.
Trade targets are suggested by others trading with Leafs.

I'm really interested to know why you think the islanders would do that

Mayfield is damn near untouchable with the Isles, signed to a sweet deal like that, so unless his talent goes south and ends up being a fringe 7-8 Dman (like Harpur. Marincin, Holl and Schmaltz) the Isles will keep him, the cheapest top 4 dman in the NHL.

People see that sick contact and assume he’s not a top 4 with how cheap he is

I didn't see enough of Mayfield to get a good enough sense of him. From what I've looked up, nothing screams top 4. What is it about him, aside from his cap hit, that makes him a top 4 in you guys eyes?

I just watched in playoffs and he easily held his own in his own zone while playing big minutes

Kind of small sample size though don't you think? He was the 5th most used dman on the team in the playoffs...... Not saying he couldn't do more with added time but it not like he's earned top 4 minutes yet. He hasn't even broken into the 20 mins a game on average yet. Plus he's 26. he's not like a 22 year old. This is his prime right now.

From what I saw in the playoffs, Toews and Pelech were quite noticeable. Mayfield wasn't bad but wasn't exactly a standout either.

He is a late bloomer who just had his first full season in the NHL last year. Corsica ranked him 90th among defensemen in the league, based on a bunch of stats. Given that he plays on the PK and is right handed, I'm not saying he wouldn't help with the Leafs. But we already have Barrie and Ceci this year, and I wouldn't let go of Bracco, whom I'd like to see in the lineup soon.
