I agree but such a risky move. If Puljujärvi doesn't pan out it'll be an absolute bust of a trade

I mean, odds are that edmonton can be a wild card team.. not saying they go far but a potential of puljujarvi being decent and a 1st rounder is a good return.
I would really like a condition on Puljujarvi being a bust but that may be a bit of a reach-- maybe just remove the condition for the 1st but too many ppl would get upset

With those conditions- good chance that Kreider is given up for a 2nd and Puljujarvi....Don't think Kreider would look to resign there- and I think Edmonton has at least 1 more year in the lottery- the teams they would be in competition with for the WC either finished strong last year and/or have seemingly improved their rosters going into this year....EDM has done neither.

I would revise this trade to include a condition based on Kreider's performance (30 goals?) and would look for a prospect who projects into the NHL for 2020...would leave Puljujarvi out unless he were part of a bigger deal

Quite an assumption that Kreider NTC wants a trade to the wasteland of the Oilers. Oilers are still risking the 40th pick for one year of Kreider. IMO all these Kreider to Oilers trades don't makes sense at all. Trading Kreider to a contender (who probably don't have cap space now) seems to be only trade for a one year rental.

CLAUSE DETAILS: Player submits an 11 team no trade list.
There is a chance Edmonton is on it, but that's only for Kreider and front office to know. That will never get reported.

A boom or bust prospect and a 2nd isn't a high price to pay for one year of kreider. The teams that make sense really are Edmonton, Nashville, NJ (that would hurt), SJ, Chicago and Arizona. They may have to wait a bit for the % of salary to go down or retain but there will be plenty of teams willing to overpay for Kreider as a rental. Odds are, he'll be one of the best forwards on the market (seeing as anyone better is on a team that's competing for a playoff spot). I'm not counting RFAs, only pending UFAs.

Most players on this list are on playoff competing teams.. so we will see how the market turns out

The trade aside.....what has Puljujarvi done during his NHL career to deserve a 4 year, $8 million contract? So he is young and was a high first round pick. That and $3.75 will get you a latte at Starbucks. ANY team that trades for him will be doing it in the HOPE that he will play better with a fresh start...but what if he doesn't? What if he is the same player he was in Edmonton? If I'm a GM, I give him no more than 2 years at under $1 million a year and is he doesn't like that...pound sand kid....go play in Finland. BTW....NO WAY I trade Kreider to get him and a 2nd rounder. No possible way with ANY conditions.

i meant the 1st would be guaranteed, not a 2nd, that's my bad there.
And the reason to give the 2m is to get him locked up long term. I agree he hasn't proven anything, but this contract would take him under the 26 mark for the buyout which would only be 1/3 of the contract. I'll risk a <700k cap hit for 4 years if he doesn't pan out over the first two. IF he does pan out by year two, and he becomes say 75% of the player he was supposed to be, that will be a steal of a contract in year 4

That's a lot of money to pay someone in a salary cap era on an IF. No thanks. Until he does something of note he deserves no more than any other unproven player.
