This trade makes too much sense. I really wonder if something like this is tied up waiting for the RFA dominos to fall

I agree the trade makes too much sense for both sides. My guess though is it’s held up by Gardiner, MTL were heavy on him when FA opened. I’m assuming they are waiting to see if his price tag comes down before swinging a trade like this.

It doesn’t make any sense whatsoever MTL has 3-4 LHD who are more than capable of playing in the top 6 (no not a legit top pairing guy) But both kulak and mete took big strides second half of last year so either of them can compliment Weber ... not to mention MTL is thin at the top 6 fwd position already as is

MTL has been looking for a Top 4 LHD all summer. If you think signing Chiarot changes that, you’re mistaken.

This trade does make sense for both teams but if it was gonna happen it would've been done and Chiarot wouldn't of been signed, I just don't see it happening at this point.

Chiarot changes that big time he’s a guy that can easily play on the second pairing and on the pk which eats up minutes that either mete/kulak would be playing wasting there work load ... Unless Leddy is going to come in and put up 50-60 points (Tatar’s potential point total) it doesn’t make sense as I said Montreal is way more thin at the top 6 fwd position not LHD

What would make sense is maybe

Tatar
3rd (2021)

Leddy

I think it does change things actually. I don't like it and maybe you don't either, but MTL did not give Chiarot $3.5M × 3 years to be scratched. Kulak and Mete were top 4 last year. They aren't gonna be scratched either.

If this trade happened you might as well send Kulak to the Islanders, there's really no spot for him unless Mete is going to Laval.

Yea that’d be the point let mete play true #1 minutes to gain more experience.. I don’t think he necessarily needs to with how he played at the end of last year but it wouldn’t hurt his growth

Kulak is MTL best LHD right now. People thinks Chiarot will play with Petry ... why ? He can’t do better than Kulak. Kulak-Petry was actually MTL top pairing D at the end of the season. Mete-Weber Kulak-Petry Chiarot-Folin/Juulsen. If Kulak for somehow isn’t good next year, Chiarot will play with Petry

Anyone plus Petry is gonna be your top pair. Because Petry is awesome. Chiarot would fit well there, because Chiarot is pretty good, based on his 130-some shots blocked and 19 even strength points, last year, which put him third on the current roster after Petry and Weber, and tied for 79th among NHL defensemen, making him a solid #3. http://www.nhl.com/stats/player?report=skaterpoints&reportType=season&seasonFrom=20182019&seasonTo=20182019&gameType=2&position=D&filter=gamesPlayed,gte,1&sort=evPoints,points

Kulak and Leddy tied for 101st in even strength points by a defenseman last year with 16. That's three more than Alzner had the year before the Habs signed him. I'm not sure how excited I'd be to have either on a long term deal, let alone to play them with my best defenseman.
