In regards to the trade, I pass as a Leafs fan.

We can quibble as to value but it just doesn't make the Leafs better today. If the Leafs trade a guy like Kapanen I gotta think it's for an upgrade on d now. Not a guy like Bear who has upside but is another NHL/AHL tweener right now on D.

The Leafs have about 4 of them, with potentially less upside, but still similar. If bear was 2 years further Ind development maybe

Oh I agree, most likely for this season it doesn’t necessarily make the Leafs better on paper. More playing into the getting Marner signed situation. Longterm this doesn’t make the leafs worse, but is it better to wait to have Marner in the lineup until November or have this lineup with Marner ready to go at camp?

Youre trading for Kapanen and then putting him on the 4th line??!?!? He has elite speed and would actually be able to keep up with McDavid, i think kapanen to oilers makes sense but for the 4th line???

Unfortunately this does not help the leafs sign marner at all. The issue osn’t Cap space. It’s marners ask compared to his true value.
