Oilers Core 2015

Created by: newmy
Team: 2019-20 Custom Team
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 27, 2019

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Let's ignore all the trades Chia made and just focus on the Oilers core that existed when he took over...

Let that sink in...

The only assumption... Oilers would have taken Barzal rather than trade their first round pick for... Reinhart.

Could you build a perennial cup contender with this core, and $21.8MM to top up the roster... I'd think so.

How about we dont assume they take Barzal since it didnt happen. lets assume they target best available dman instead which at the time was zboril.

Zboril was gone. The name you were thinking of was Thomas Chabot

For some reason i thought they were trading an earlier pick even though it was the pick used on barzal lol.

Probably because Barzal had no business going as low as he did lol.

I think about how badly Boston beefed it in the 1st round there like once a week.

Let’s assume the Oilers picked one of Matthew Barzal, Kyle Connor, Thomas Chabot... doesn't matter which one... still a pretty damn good core to build around.

with their draft history why are you assuming they draft any of those guys? Ide be more inclined to say they take jacob larsson over chabot just because they are terrible at drafting.

it's kind of a joke when you see this. Like Chai was an actual idiot.
It's like someone bet him that he won't make these trades......then he went and made them then called that guy back "see, I told you I could do it"

I think you’re missing the point. Let’s assume the trader the pick away for nothing (which is actually what they ended up doing anyway)... so remove Barzal from the Oilers 2015 core. It’s still an incredible core to build around.

But to your point... yes, I agree. The Oilers have been perpetually brutal at drafting, amongst many other things such as trading, developing, pro scouting, fan appreciation, etc. It’s been a horribly run business through and through for 1.5 decades.

To the first half of your post here thats what i was trying to say. you cant assume they take barzal, chabot, connor, etc. In a perfect world those players are gone. which then leads to your second post where they probably take a ****ty player and he gets left in the ahl to rot since he cant make the team. I cant believe they just gave everything except mcd drai and nuge nurse and klefbom away too. just sent em out and got zero back.
