Backes rumoured to be injured

Description
Per NHL's network's Brian Lawton, "David Backes has been rumored to potentially be injured to start this year". If the B's decide to place Backes on LTIR, how does that affect the cap going forward to next year. Overage penalties as a result of this year? I believe that by placing a player on LTIR his AAV still counts against the cap - however it permits the team to go over the cap resulting in a salary cap recapture next year by the amount of any overage.

I believe his AAV doesn’t count against the cap for the time he is on LTIR. There are also zero penalties for it.

Edit: I’m wrong. It does and the LTIR sounds quite complicated so I didn’t bother to read past after I was proved wrong.

So in the scenario above, if Backes is placed on LTIR and remains there all year, the B's will incur a salary cap overage penalty next year of $6,000,000 less this years cap space of $3,278,334, or $2,721,666? That figure does not include any potential bonus penalties. Some relief will be had for the expiration of the Beletsky and Seidenberg costs (approx. $3M)

I don’t believe there are penalties to LTIR. If a team has a string of season ending injuries I can’t imagine the league penalizing a team for that.

My understanding of it is that Backes’ salary will count against the cap, but the team gets temporary relief of his 6m cap hit for call ups. By temporary, I mean for however long he is in fact injured.

LTIR allows you to go over the cap by as much as the contract. However at the end of the year if you are over the cap any bonus money comes out of next years cap space. That is why Tampa traded Callahan even though he will not play. Ottawa has plenty of cap space so they took advantage of a trade.

Per Cap Friendly the B's have potential bonuses of $2,352,500 this coming season. If all performance bonuses are achieved and Backes remains on LTIR all season, the B's will incur a penalty of $2,352,500 next year when both Beletsky and Seidenberg come off the books?

. If the cap is 83 then next year you could only spend 80.6 approximately if bonus paid out.

LTIR cannot create an overage. That can only happen with performance bonuses. Backes, if on LTIR would still count against the cap. The bruins would then be allowed to replace that money. However, if Backes then comes back, they would have to be cap complaint. Thus, no overage, because they cannot be over. If Backes starts the year on LTIR but they plan on him coming back, it won't effect anything.
