Out of the Box Thoughts on Line Combinations

Description
I expect a lot of flak for some of these ideas. Don't worry -- my Dad faced the real thing over Germany in 1943.

Comtois and Sprong are gunners. At least one if not both should play with the premier passer in the game.

Troy Terry is a playmaker a la Mitch Marner. He can play opposite Rakell while Ondrej Kase is rounding back into shape.

The Snake Line (SSS -- get it?) should outplay and outscore the opposition bottom-6 while holding their own against the opposing top two lines.

I still think Gudbranson would solidify the Duck defense, and should not be expensive to acquire due to Pittsburgh's cap problems.

This is a playoff team. And with Jones, Zegras, Tracey, Lundestrom, Groulx and Lacombe, they have a bright future.

Maybe, maybe not. Hard to see how it could be worse than Fowler-Hakanpaa or Guhle-Fowler, etc.

I don't think Guhle-Fowler will be as bad as we think. Only time will tell for this.

Also, I would switch Kase with Sprong. Comtois-Getzy-Kase would be fun to watch and I could see Kase breaking 30 goals.

Gudbranson is a death wish, target Ristolainen. He has much more upside and is way younger.

As for the lines, Kase shouldn't be on line 4. Bottom 6:

Silfverberg-Steel-Kase
Ritchie-Rowney-Shore

Man the Ducks are absolutely stacked with talented young players. I like the lineup. How did Sprong look on the Ducks last year? I remember really wanting Fenton to trade for him as a buy-low candidate when the Penguins were rumored to be shopping him.

I don't think that Guhle-Fowler will be terrible. I just think that Fowler-Gudbranson is a pairing that might actually work.

The only reason I have Kase down on the fourth line is that I'm afraid he will take some time to get back to his performance level after the injury, rehab and time off.

The only reason I have Kase down there for the start of the season is that he's rehabbing and getting back up to speed. I hope I'm wrong and that Ondrej is ready to go from training camp and the first game. He belongs on the first line. I see a lot of promise there.

My opinion is that Comtois, Kase and Spring are all top-6 forwards no later than next year. With Rakell and Silfverberg already there, and Troy Terry looking like a lesser (for now) version of Mitch Marner, the problem will be to get them all sufficient playing time. Young Kiefer Sherwood could also surprise. Then there are the unsigned prospects like Groulx, Zegras and Tracey . . .

Sprong is dynamic with the puck on his stick. He made some snipes from crazy angles and he skates with purpose... from the redline in. That's not to say he's lazy in his own zone so much as he just doesn't know how to effectively focus his energy while he's there. He's pretty one-dimensional but with some consistency that could translate to 20 goals or more. But consistency seems to be a big ask. Personally, I wouldn't have him penciled in the top-6. He'll definitely have to prove he belongs there.
