His offense fell off twenty percent from Ottawa, while joining a higher scoring team. So I agree with you... he has... Dillon.

Uhm.. not necesarilly truth.. Played 71 games and had 62 points in ottawa in 17-18 (0.873) and had 45pts in 53 games in San José year later (0.849) which would on full regular season shedule mean decrease of 2 points. Also he had very significant injury this past year..

Zacha is nothing special. He's a good bottom 6 PKr. We don't need to go out of our way to get him.

Friedman passed along and confirmed a report this morning from the Czech Republic that Zacha and NJ are in agreement on an extension, not official yet but coming very soon. Also, that would be a definite downgrade at 3C, so I'm not sure what is to be gained through all of this.

NJ has depth and youth at center and forward. The Caps have them at defense. Just swapping to make both teams better.

I agree Eller is a great 3C. If there's an injury, Eller is a fine 2C, and Dowd is a passable 3C for three years, super-cheap, but Zacha should develop into an Eller, more or less. Chance of more if he and fellow-Czech Vrana develop some chemistry.... don't see much chance of anything more in NJ, where he's pencilled onto line four until Zajac retires. But the CF homepage says he just signed at a 2.25M cap hit, and it seems tricky to fit that on the Caps this season.... which is fine. If they trade for him next summer, after he's played 4C for a year, his trade value should be lower, but he'll still speak Czech. smile

I hadn't looked into it in depth like that. But I just glanced again, and he fell from 43 to 25 even strength points. Not sure what that comes out to per sixty, but some San Jose fan asked what Djoos might cost last week, on a different Caps fan's comments, and I think they might be onto something.

After his broken leg healed, Djoos finished last year with seven even strength points in his last 18 games, which would put him on pace for 31. That's six more than Karlsson got last year in a shortened season, playing with DIllon (although of course he was on pace for 38). Djoos and Karlsson are both Swedish, so if better communication helps them both play better, they could be pretty scary, together, and Karlsson could push for the Norris trophy again.
