Because why not?

Colorado is probably giving up too much here... it all depends on how high you value Byram, I guess. Maybe Girard goes instead, but then I don't think that's enough. Let me know what you think below.

And I know Marner won't sign this deal with the Leafs, but the premise here is that if he's NOT on the Leafs he'll have to use league-wide comps rather than just Auston Matthews. Rantanen is as close a comp as you can get, IMO.

You just know Toronto is going to ask for Makar, which is clearly a non-starter for Sakic. I was thinking that Byram would be too much, but I can't see Dubas accepting Girard in his place. Maybe Girard + 2020 1st?

Toronto is going to trade Marner to Colorado for Byram and spare parts. No Rantanen or Landeskog.

Quite likely. Trying to find equilibrium here. Colorado has some amazing pieces but not a lot of depth.

Agreed. And if Byram turns out to be a #1 defenseman, I believe his value and impact will be greater than marner. And he'll probably be a lot cheaper
