There is NO NEED to bury Guds. He can play and played well for our Pens last season.

Pens fans are idiots. They go by reputation and not actual performance.

You do understand that pens fans are going by his performance for them last season, right? He played well in sheltered minutes with a talented partner.

What were the three first words of your second sentence? They don't need him to be anything more than their 5th defenseman. So don't make it out that it is a terrible deal just because he isn't going to be a number 1 dman. Look at the role he was asked and needed to play. Did he do that well? Yes? Then that is all that matters.

Honka is better than Gudbranson.

Just because he played well for a 20 game stretch, does not mean he can sustain that level of play for a season, those games are just outliers.

Well, I highly doubt he can play that way for a whole season, there is nothing to suggest that.

There is nothing to not suggest that. The only data there is for him playing with the pens and in their system points to him playing well. To say that he can't before you even see it happen is irresponsible.

What have you seen of honka to think this? Your rational seems a little off.

DonkeyLips. We can’t really do much with our roster at this point unless a trade is made so Guds is much better than Jack Johnson since we are stuck with both of them.

Honka was a dressed scratch....enough said.
This is horrible in so many ways. Rust is a much better player. An NHL regular on damn near any team in the NHL, He put up 18 goals last year, 16 of which were in 5v5 play. Only a total moron would trade a player like that from a team!

Gudbranson was literal garbage before he joined the Penguins. A 20 game sample doesn't overrule 8 years of him being bad. If he plays well with the Penguins, then I'll be in the wrong, but as of now, the stretch in which he played well is just an outlier from his usual play

You do realize Rust is a cap casualty? I really would prefer the Penguins to keep him, but they're currently over the cap and he is the odd man out.

Honka had better results than Gudbranson in the time he played. He had a -11% defensive threat and a +4% offensive threat. So not only can he be a strong 5v5 defender, he can chip in offensively too.

The problem with year analysis is that for those first 8 years he didn't play for the penguins or in a system similar to the way they play. The most important statistics right now are how he has played with the penguins. That has been good. Stop being a whinny baby.

Why aren't you using the same standards to grade honka as you are gudbranson?

how do you get they are over the cap?
They are definitely not over the cap.
How do people just make this stuff up as they go?
Do a ACGM and realize how the numbers actually work.
The current team fields 22 and has 368,375 in cap space left.
This team is fine. Period.
