Now what

Created by: ChiHawk
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 14, 2019
Published: Sep. 14, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
13 players signed; 10 players left to sign with only $17M to do it. It's not going to be easy and if they want Barrie back, that's going to eat up at least $6M leaving $11m left for 9 players.

As a Hawks fan that's gone through it many times, welcome to cap hell. What does that mean? Someone like Nylander, Kerfoot, Johnson or Kap will get traded at a minimum. As in the Hawks case, it's a tough pill to swallow but if you win a cup it makes it easier. Good luck to the Leafs!

This is not an answer to the assertion you do understand that right? I pointed out something and you might have well said "the sky is blue" in response.

I posted a question and your response was ****ing chill...provide a response. Post a AGM for 20/21....as said to Lauden, I'm really interested what the Leafs do next season. If they win a cup...who cares given that it's been 52/53 years, but outside of that, I'm curious. Why are you so defensive?

Next season sounds like a next season problem to me. Let's enjoy the kick ass team for a little while at least.

both of you are right and both of you are wrong. I see one guy seeing NOW and lets worry about future later, they have this team for a year and a lot can happen in a year plus also a little defensive. Another guy, is looking at a future as a good GM does. I think lets give leafs fan sometime to just relax and be happy about everyone getting signed as they have had a stressful summer.

That and the fact that there isn't much to do anymore. Demrott is the only major contract and he should get done on the cheap. The leafs top 9 is locked in with term and there are already guys banging on the door also locked into term (Moore).

On the d side lily and sandin and nearly ready to step in and with Dermott being done by then that is a significant part of the back end for cheap. It essentially means we can afford to sign a guy to fill in the gap on defence in the coming years until lily and sandin are fully top 4 guys since we don't need it worry about much else.

Also the NHL is forcasting a 100 million dollar cap in 4-5 years so I am not overly worried about the long term. There will always be something to get done each year but the bulk of the work is done. Once we are through this year we will be tight but there won't be a major cap crunch.

You have 1 defender signed for next year and a decent goalie. The cap won't go up more then $2.5M next year. Even with lily and sandin ready to step in, it's still a crunch.

I agree to most of the things you said. only thing I have hard time seeing is 100 mil cap in 4-5 years.... wow I really hope so. so lets say even with US tv deal and new team cap goes up but can i see it going up almost 20 mil. Just this past jan they said cap would most like be around 84 mil even that didn't happen. Like i said 4-5 years is a long time and crazy things can happen but the way it is I dont see it at 100 mil in 4 to 5 years but i hope i am wrong.

It's always going to be tight, but that 1 dman is the only important one to for sure have undercontract. You have the bottom pair already on elcs and one of them should be starting to try a top 4 role at that point. Dermott will be a top 4 guy by then so you need 1 guy to fill in.

It is in one of the radio hits fridge did. They said they expect the cap to jump massively because the us tv deal is supposed it be 8 times bigger than the current one, which puts it around 2 billion dollars.
He went on to say that they expect the cap to jump to 90 mil, then 95, then 100 in the following years after the deal

It's possible as a high end projection but 5 years from now, I could definitely see $94M+ with Seattle expansion, new CBA, and new network agreements.

So that's 4 guys at $4M roughly without Dermott, leaving $13M and 6 guys left. How much is Dermott? Why not Tyson Barrie?

like i said 5 years is a longgggg time in NHL and I hope they can get their but I dont see it.

this is a quote written by mirtle back in 2013. Yea, you can say mirtle isn't anything legit but there is more than one article saying this back in 2013

"Mirtle also predicts the NHL salary cap will reach $80 million by 2016-17, and $100 million (with a cap floor at more than $75 million) by the time the CBA expires in 2022."

as we can see we are just breaking 80 mil mark in 19-20 season - 3 seasons behind.

To avoid the No.500 sim today where Marner is signed, i will just write it here, youll figure it

Thing is first cut will be made this year already. With Matthews and Marner overpaid by 2M each ( or 2y in term), sadly Hyman is on the way out, cause 2019/2020 already isnt doable without that

And now the sim 2020/2021, will write $$ youll figure it out i guess :

775,000 - 11,000,000 - 10,893,000...................................22,668,000
775,000 - 11,634,000 - 6,962,000.....................................19.371,000
3,400.000 - 3,500,000 - 3,300,000....................................10,200,000
775,000 - 775,000 - 775,000..............................................2,325,000
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------54,564,000

5,000,000 - 5,000,000..........................................................10,000,000
5,000,000 - 3,000,000.............................................................8,000,000
894,000 - 863,000................................................................... 1,757,000
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------19,757,000

5,000,000
800,000
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------5,800,000

scratches for 22 roster

700,000
700,000
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------1,400,000

TOTAL : 81,521,000

O is set longterm ( kinda ), proly D needs explanation, 1st Pair Rielly - UFA ( hopefully Hamonic or something ), 2nd Pair Muzzin ( 4 x 5M ) and Dermott ( 3 x 3M )

I believe its enlightfull enough, 2M in the pot still, which even makes Spurgeon or Pietrangelo at 7M fishable if any of those will hit Free Agency.....

Is it Stanley Cup team ? I doubt with above mentioned 4M missing to land another #1-2 Dman

I guess you will come with Andersen for 2021/2022 and Rielly 2022/2023 next........

And? You aren't worried about Tampa next season, or Winnipeg. Check out their situations. Vancouver can't afford to sign Boeser right now. You are so consumed with wanting TO to fail you can't see anything beyond problems you want to be bigger than they are. TO can make a trade next year as well. Remember in July when guys like you said TO couldn't afford Marner because Zaitsev and Marleau were untradeable? How did that turn out for you? Remember when you said Marner won't sign for less than Matthews exact contract? Only a fool yells till they are blue in the face that scenario A will happen and then says "see, I told you so", when scenario C happens pretending they still got it right. All of that and you're a fan of a team that is likely to miss the playoffs, is in arguable a much worse cap position and is getting older. Throwing stones in a glass house is smart.

I never said Marner won't sign for less then Matthews. I never said Zaits is untradable. Just to prove YOU are exactly the type of Leafs fan that I'm talking about....go find where I said that and post it in a reply....otherwise you're full of BS
