actual value that is of impact to the Jets who have a limited win now window. Such as a package built around Drouin, not a dime a dozen depth players that anytime can find and replace via waiver wire

okay, so you are asking for Drouin? this is my first counter offer in 90 minutes LOL. I can add Drouin, I can see that as fair. Also Mike Luit, Laine's agent said on Sportsnet when asked if the Jets offer and Lain'es demands are close: “We’re not close,” Liut said. So they are not in the ballpark.

I don't have NHL 19 to check but do we really even need to? Frankly the fact that you'd even think that is a valid way of gauging trade value scares me.

i don't, i just think it would be funny to see.

You don't start negotiation with a lowball so bad it offends the other GM. That isn't a starting point, its an insult. You have to give them something to entice them to start to negotiate. If you offend me right out of the gate, than I simply stop doing business with you. Its that simple. This is not a flea market bartering system.

Either way, I'm more than willing to "pretend to negotiate" but I have a feeling if you think this is a valid starting point and your actually trying to defend it with some silly explanations of how any of those players mentioned above solve any issue for the Jets, than negotiating any further will be waste of everyone's time.

After 90 minutes I finally have a counter offer. I was asked if I would add Drouin to the trade and I agreed. So now your thoughts?

Like I said, If you started with an offer that insulting, I'd take it personally and not deal with at all going forward. If I was desperate to make the deal maybe I would be a little more understanding but Im not and just because you've convinced yourself of my supposed desperation, doesn't make it true. Reality is I am not worried at all. In fact Buff's retirement, although would suck, would solve a lot of issues cap wise for my team sooo....

So you know what I have a counter, Laine for Domi, Gallagher, Kotkaniemi, Poehling, Suzuki, Mete, 2020 1st, 2021 1st and the twenty minutes or so i lost having to explain to you the nuance of negotiation.

I have not done the math but that would put the JETS at about 150 million in CAP. Have fun with the luxury tax and explaining this to the JETS owners.

Seeing that I am a cup half full type. This would allow Laine all the ice time he wants! lol

Hot tip. Agents use the media to carry water for them to put public pressure on teams

His job is to get his client the best deal possible any means possible and agents do that my saying just that to the media, doesn’t mean it’s true or false but you take things with a grain of salt. Agents don’t go to media for fun they do it bc they have a agenda behind it

100% agreed but Mike is not the type to run to media. He is more on the reserved and stay out of media kind of guy. But point well taken.

more to the point of why he would make statements, he is putting pressure on the Jets. Whatever that may be, for them to go with the bridge deal option instead long term that Laines camp is reportedly interested in doing, or if its to bump up the aav. There is a reason and its not just to announce to the hockey world that they arent close just in case you guys were wondering

I just read an offer in French and it is Laine for Drouin, Kulak, Brooks and 2nd rounder. Interesting. So I was not the only on thinking about this. Less draft picks, no 1st rounder, but better player offers than what I began with.
