Not for two non nhlers and a 2nd, one of your better prospects will be the asking price

The geniuses who keep claiming the Rangers (fan, here) are not in a win-now mode, keep suggesting that Chris Kreider is not part of the future; thus, these trade proposals keep arising. The one thing the Rangers will not take in return for a very capable player, is another Namestnikov to fill in their roster. But proposing that they take two to allow you a shot at a Cup, would and should get Jeff Gorton fired.

To be fair, that offer is extremely lacking. Sobotka's trade value is basically zero, Smith's already 24 and is a bit of a stretch to call him a prospect... And at the moment it seems that the 2nd you're offering is going to be from the lower end, conditional pick or not. NYR will easily decline this.

Sheary+Asplund+1st is much closer to a realistic offer than this.

I like Kreider but not for what you think the return should be . Not when he is a rental. Why should we help Rangers with their rebuild ?

By the same token why should NYR give Kreider in exchange to a pile of crap?

I do not think they should but sorry he will be worth a second at the trade deadline as he is a UFA

............................shakes head

Brian freaking Boyle got traded for a 2nd at the deadline. Kreider is at least a couple of times more valuable than him, even as UFA. Even Zuccarello got 2nd and 3rd with both picks being conditional firsts. And Kreider is above him in value.

Well we will see Buffalo is not going to be silly. Our GM is very calculated in his moves. And how well did those trades you listed work for the teams that got the player on the trades you reference ? Not very well.

Actually really well. As rental strengthening, Zuccarello was great for the Stars, sadly he got injured in the first game in the Stars team, but he did really well in the playoffs. NSH got what they wanted in Boyle, a big bottom-6 forward that brought some grit to the team.

There's a reason why these assets are called rental strengthening...

don't recall either of those teams making it that far.. Sabres are not a rental team yet. Another year or so.

Well Stars and Preds were against in the first round of the playoffs, which Stars won. Then they got against the Blues, and lost the Game 7 in OT...

But was the cost worth it to them long term ? Buffalo is still thinking long term. Not a rental team yet.

Yeah, most likely it was worth it. Maybe more worth it for Dallas, but I think they were good deals.
