Already dreaming of Lafrenière... I hope you get Lafrenière to bring back the rivalry! Tkachuk vs Domi, Lafrenière in MTL, would be fun to watch!

If Brown can become a legitimate 1st line option maybe not, but otherwise I suspect that would be the plan. He's big, he has elite level skill, and takes a lot of faceoffs anyway. He's already the main pivot on the PP.

I still think the best option is to draft Byfield. It's unbelievable how well he fits everything Ottawa needs.

Could you imagine the top six if they traded for Puljujarvi and got Byfield?

Tkachuk-Byfield-Batherson
Formenton-Brown-Puljujarvi

The average would be like 6'3 200 lbs

I'm selfishly hoping Byfield falls to my Rangers! Haha, but yes that would be an awesome top 6. I can't wait to see how Ottawa's rebuild plays out - I know things have sucked the past couple years, but it looks like really good days are not too far off.

Our future in net Mads Søgaard is a little further away than the rest of the team, but they're going to have a very solid team by 2021-22.

There are lots better ways to cheaply reach the cap floor than pay for a guy who doesn't to be here. If cap floor is important, why trade Gaborik at all?

My thinking is that Gaborik is on LTIR, so might as well trade for a guy who actually counts toward the cap.

Ottawa since they have cap space would put Gaborik on IR not LTIR. IR counts against the cap.

Oh, I was thinking IR was only for short-term injuries. Didn't realize you could choose to put on LTIR. I thought that would be circumventing the cap rules.

I doubt he would be moved to centre, we have a bunch of depth centre just waiting including Chlapik, brown, white, norris, Anisimov (unfortunately), paul, batherson, pager, etc.

White has showed that he can be good when playing with other great players aka Stone. He's had a very slow start this year and he's a guy who gets injured a lot so I think our best bet is Byfield/Brown as our top 6 centres and maybe white plays wing in the top 6. Lots of guys on the Sens under Boucher played out of their abilities which hurt them, I think DJ is putting guys in positions where tehy can have success so White should be able to find his strengths under DJ's system.

I believe that a team can't put a player on LTIR for cap reasons) till they reached the cap limit of 81.5m. The other advantage of having a player on IR, is that allows a team to pay all it's performance bonuses in the current season instead of carrying over PB cap to the following year.
IR/LTIR it's a little more complicated than laid out in ACGM. But for our purposes, the CapFriendly works just fine in most cases.
