Why is everyone so concerned with moving players that are playing well now, because their contract MIGHT be bad in a few years? In a few years all that will matter for the pens is going to be rebuilding. Winning now is most important.
It's not about the player it's about the system. They want to play a faster and faster game. It's to their advantage to play fast because they have the top level talent to do it.
The faster the rest of the team is, the longer you preserve Crosby and Malkin. Even if they lose a step, the thought process is the faster youth makes up for it.

I could see hornqvist ending up in Seattle as long as he’s still producing at a 20 goal rate. If he takes a major decline I doubt they’ll want him. He’s had so many injury issues and has played such a physical game of hockey. He could decline fast. He’ll probably end his contract on LTIR tbh
That would be fine too for Seattle though. It helps them get to the cap floor.
Especially if that contract is insured.
But they are going to do this.
You look at their defense alone and you realize it. Dumo/Letang, Marino/MP...that's 4 right there if they do 7-3 they lose one. If they do 8, they will get killed in the forwards. There is no way they let the defense get picked apart after it took them this long to stabilize it. None. Not a chance in hell.
This is going to happen.
There is no question to me about it.
