Or, trade him to another team and let them make a mistake, then sign any other player.

so now because one Russian defenceman signed a mistake-ridden long term deal means that you can't resign your producing young Russian forwards to cheaper, short term bridge deals? sick logic there

slow down a bit there I wouldn't say he's better than johnsson

Johnsson is a chump defensively. I'd prefer a guy that plays both sides of the puck and they're point production is similar. Considering Johnsson has gotten PP1 time and has been stapled to Matthews' hip all year I'd say that's good for Mik. How is he not better?

IMO the Leafs are going to "forced" to trade a winger with cap (Kapanen or Johnsson) for futures. Replace that traded player with 900,000 winger and with the extra cap acquire a good enough NHLer Man(s)
I'm fine with Reilly, Dermot, Liljegren and Sandin, and probably even Holl if the Leafs can sign him as UFA. It's finding another two competent NHL Dmen and maybe at 4m total.

With the forward depth the Leafs have, I really don't think we need to sign him.

All depends on the contract, if Mikheyev doesn't cost too much you keep him. He's been great, I really like his game. Picks off a lot of passes and I think Keefe's system is going help him shine.

By next season Sandin and Lils should both be ready absolutely. The issue I see is pairing them together as the third pairing. One of thems going to have to play in the top 4 to avoid that. My guess would be Sandin. I feel like his extremely high hockey IQ will benefit him.

Don't get me wrong, I like him, but if he puts up good numbers he will want a payday. Leafs can't afford another multi-million dollar forward. Need to re-sign/sign a Dman

I think the real question is, 2.5 million for Barberio?

I see what you're saying, the main point is that I'd add a UFA to go with the current Defensive depth

Ah, I get you. I'd bring back Muzzin if he can be enticed to sign for 3-4 years at a fair rate. Shift Dermott to the right side and run

Rielly - Dermot
Muzzin - Holl
Sandin - Liljegren

I think that Sandin and Liljegren will be on separate pairings to start their careers

Why? They have built in chemistry because they've played a tonne together in the minors. So they don't have to feel things out, they can just do what they do.
