I wonder if they let Krejci walk and let Coyle take that spot

5 mil for a good 3C is the going rate these days (albeit the top end). The issue with the contract is that it is too long. If they were going to pay him this, they should have made it 4@5.25

I'd have to assume this happens as they have a lot of players needing deals the next 2-3 years

I think a good 3C gets 4-4.5. I agree the term should be at 3-4 years

Ottawa takes that as they get a first. The Moore deal LA could reject although they need defense depth

I’d imagine. Krejci is aging and unless he takes a 1 or 2 year deal which is unlikely, there would be a good chance his contract ends up becoming an anchor.

Remember with the cap going up that number slowly increases. These days the new contracts for centres look something like this aav wise:
1C: 9+ mil
2C: 6-8 mil
3C: 3-5 mil
4C: Min-1.5 mil

If Backes is unlikely to play next season - which is looking to be more and more the case as this season progresses - Ottawa happily takes Boston's 1st Round Pick to plop another guy on LTIR.

My re-post from NHL SIGNINGS page

Good moves by Sweeney for CC (& Wagner). It's called getting in front of the parade and leading the pack instead of being a dumb clown on the float in the middle or end of the pack.

Coyle has begun to fit in nicely as he gets more games in the B's system (think "Mr. Versatile"). On pace for 45 points this year, played the point on the PP last night and can move into "1stC or 2ndC hole" and be effective (eg: Bergy goes down and he's next man up). In two years, Krejci is unlikely too be re-signed (at least at >US$7M, just my opinion, I like DK, maybe he takes a hometown discount?). That said, Coyle would then be positioned as #2C regular maybe and he'll be 3.5 years a Bruin by then...
Bruins now have 15 guys signed for next year too. Key signings left = UFA Krug, RFA Debrusk, RFA Grizz, UFA Halak...(Chara?)
Sweeney's favourite song = "The Beat Goes On Baby...."

Next Year = Boston has 15 guys signed and US$65M of Cap allocated.
Compare = TO has 10 guys signed and US$65.5M of Cap allocated
ARIZ has 18 guys signed and US$81.4M of Cap allocated
BUFF has 10 guys signed and US$48.5M of Cap allocated
DAL has 15 guys signed and US$ 62.7M of Cap allocated

Boston players that need deals are very manageable in fact: UFA Krug, RFA DeBrusk & Grizz, UFA Halak, (Chara??) - the rest can walk, FA's signed and/or the farm team delivers.

The Coyle contract is good. Did anyone see what Kevin Hayes signed for this summer? Coyle plays RW in a pinch and will be the intermediary between Bergy/Krejci and Studnicka/Beecher. Just the fact he is a right shot and can play C/RW is worth it. Most people don't realize the premium a right shot player is worth, almost like a lefty pitcher in baseball. That's why Wagner got a new contract and Nordstrom won't.

Both were very good signings. I’d prefer 5 years as opposed to 6 the $ was spot on with his market value.

He will be RW2 next year. Will his contract bother you then?

I'm not a Bs fan but if he plays RW2 then its better. Why not play RW2 this season then?

No C3

Kids are not ready, nobody else on roster provides enough offense for the spot.
