Fair point but Pastas deal takes him right to UFA, I cant see Pasta leaving and Barkov could certainly be the same case. I think those contracts are a matter of GMs getting the lowest AAV they can get while the players have the chance to net their highest AAV right after the deal

I forget who he was, but the GM that signed Rick Nash to his second deal in Columbus said that 5 years was basically the only way to get him signed because he wanted the opportunity to explore bigger markets. I’m not saying that’s what’s happening here, nor am I saying Columbus is Florida, but it has to be considered.

Pastrnak is in a completely different spot. First off, Boston is Boston, and Sunrise is Sunrise. Then you gotta figure that Pastrnak knows in Boston he’s going to compete for a cup. Spend 5 years with the panthers and you might get a playoff appearance. Then in terms of the contract offered, boston was in a spot where they needed to get the lowest AAV possible due to cap restrictions. Let’s say they had the option of keeping Pastrnak at 8 million for 8 years or 6 at 6.6. That means something to Boston. To florida you give him the extra money and by out more UFA years. No brainer. It makes sense to me that Barkov wanted that term.

Not sure Id say Barkov is more valuable, I suppose it would just be team preference if theyd rather have a top scoring winger vs top 3 two-way center. But regardless Barkov isnt moving

I said hes a bit more valuable because when push comes to shove you should take the C.

But yeah. I'm just trying to create perspective.

Sorry, but #1 Dmen carry more value than #1 centers.
You also have to take into account team control & Age. McAvoy is 21 on pretty sweet deal. I know Barkov's contract is too, but 2.5 years from now, they are both up and one can walk and one can't.

Although Barkov is better, it would be similar to Ryan Johansen for Seth Jones Deal. Johansen has been a relative disappointment in Nashville, but his numbers up until the time of the trade look pretty similar to Barkov's.

There is no comparison. Jones and McAvoy sure, but Barkov is one of the best twoway C's in the league.

You assume there is appeal in living and working in Boston over sunrise alone. Like independent of hockey. You do recognize that's just your personal boss right?

Lol. No. Boston>Florida. That isn’t subjective, that’s fact. The state of florida is an absolute cesspool. If it weren’t for the tax benefits, players wouldn’t glance at it. Boston’s pretty tax friendly for players too though. And it isn’t a trash bag.

You didn’t refute him at all. Yes. Barkov is one of the top centers in the league. Number 1 D> Number 1 center in value. There’s a lot fewer true number one d men than there are centers.

I'm not sure how you can't see that living in one state is better is subjective. There are plenty of people who prefer Florida... Look at Miami...
